2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		join the citizens of Chambers County in celebrating Chambers
4	10		County Day at the State Capitol on February 12, 2025; and

7	13		Spaniards erected a mission and presidio near present-day
8	14		Wallisville to secure their control of the region, and in 1818, a
9	15		group of French supporters of Napoleon Bonaparte established a
10	16		short-lived colony near present-day Anahuac; later, in 1832 and
11	17		1835, disturbances at Anahuac between Anglo settlers and Mexican
12	18		authorities foreshadowed the Texas Revolution; and
13	19		WHEREAS, Chambers County was created from portions of
14	20		Liberty and Jefferson Counties in 1858 and named in honor of
15	21		General T. J. Chambers; Wallisville served as the county seat
16	22		until 1908, when Anahuac assumed that role; today, other
17	23		communities in the county include Beach City, Cove, Double Bayou,
18	24		Hankamer, Mont Belvieu, Oak Island, Old River-Winfree, Smith
19	25		Point, Stowell, and Winnie; and
20	26		WHEREAS, Countless tourists are drawn to many attractions
21	27		and events offered by Chambers County; Anahuac, officially known
22	28		as the Alligator Capital of Texas, hosts the Texas Gatorfest each
23	29		September at Fort Anahuac Park, and another major celebration is
24	30		the Texas Rice Festival held in September and October; and
25	31		WHEREAS, Visitors are also drawn by the area's historic
26	32		sites and excellent golf courses and by the bountiful
27	33		opportunities for birding, fishing, hunting, crabbing, boating,
28	34		and photography; among the notable attractions are Wallisville
29	35		Heritage Park, Houston Raceway Park, Moody National Wildlife
30	36		Refuge, Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, and the Corps of
31	37		Engineers Trinity River Recreation Area; and
32	38		WHEREAS, In addition to tourism, the county's economy
33	39		benefits from such enterprises as the petroleum industry,
34	40		chemical plants, agribusiness, fish and oyster processing, and
35	41		manufacturing; and
36	42		WHEREAS, Chambers County lies between Houston and the
37	43		Golden Triangle of Beaumont-Orange-Port Arthur, and it offers
38	44		its people both quiet, rural living and convenient access to
39	45		big-city amenities; and
40	46		WHEREAS, The residents of Chambers County are justifiably
41	47		proud of their achievements, for this noteworthy region and its
42	48		citizens have played a significant role in the development of the
43	49		Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
44	50		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
45	51		Legislature, hereby recognize February 12, 2025, as Chambers
46	52		County Day at the Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the fine
47	53		citizens who have traveled to Austin to celebrate this occasion;
48	54		and, be it further

50		-	people of Chambers County as a memento of this special occasion.
