2	8		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	9		recognize the Reverend Dr. John D. Harris on his decades of
4	10		devoted service to Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church and to
5	11		the people of Brenham, Washington County, and the Lone Star
6	12		State; and
7	13		WHEREAS, Dr. John Harris' professional career includes
8	14		more than five decades as a college and public school educator,
9	15		counselor, and administrator; after working in numerous Texas
10	16		school districts, colleges, and universities, he returned to his
11	17		hometown of Brenham and has spent 35 years in notable student
12	18		services administration roles at Blinn College, including his
13	19		current role as an academic advisor; and
14	20		WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and passion, Reverend
15	21		Harris answered the call to the gospel ministry in 1990; he
16	22		earned a certificate in ministry from Houston College of Biblical
17	23		Studies and devoted 10 years as pastor of Mercy Seat Baptist
18	24		Church in Washington, Texas; since 2001, he has been a source of
19	25		spiritual guidance and boundless generosity to the Brenham
20	26		community as senior pastor of Mount Rose Missionary Baptist
21	27		Church; and
22	28		WHEREAS, Dr. Harris holds leadership positions in a number
23	29		of professional organizations, and he and his treasured wife of
24	30		52 years, Helen, are owners of the Golden Years Home Health
25	31		Agency in Brenham; he is justifiably proud of his legacy as a
26	32		cherished leader in Washington County and as a loving father and
27	33		grandfather to his family; and
28	34		WHEREAS, Dr. Harris is revered by many for his ministerial
29	35		service and for the lasting impact he has made on countless young
30	36		people during his career in education, and it is indeed fitting
31	37		that he receive special recognition on the occasion of his 25th
32	38		anniversary at Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church; now,
33	39		therefore, be it
34	40		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
35	41		Legislature, hereby commend Rev. Dr. John D. Harris on his
36	42		dedicated service and his many contributions to the church, the
37	43		congregation, and the community; and, be it further
38	44		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
39	45		him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
