2	2	WHEREAS, The State of Texas and the United Kingdom have
3	3	enjoyed a long and fruitful partnership founded on shared
4	4	history, culture, language, and robust economic ties; and
5	5	WHEREAS, An official delegation from the United Kingdom
6	6	headed by British Consul General Sujeevan Satheesan is visiting
7	7	the State Capitol on February 11, 2025; and
8	8	WHEREAS, This special relationship dates back nearly two
9	9	centuries; Sam Houston, president of the Republic of Texas, was
10	10	the first Texas leader to send a diplomatic mission to London,
11	11	and a plaque on St. James Street still marks the site of the
12	12	legation of the Republic of Texas; in addition, the first British
13	13	Consulate in the State of Texas was established in Galveston in
14	14	1846; and
15	15	WHEREAS, The United Kingdom remains one of Texas's most
16	16	significant economic partners; it is the top source of foreign
17	17	direct investment in the Lone Star State, with subsidiaries of
18	18	British companies accounting for tens of thousands of Texas jobs;
19	19	every year, British households and businesses purchase billions
20	20	of dollars in services and goods from Texas, including petroleum
21	21	products, aerospace components, and medical equipment, among
22	22	others; major airlines connect Texas cities daily to the UK,
23	23	promoting commerce and tourism that bring our two peoples ever
24	24	closer; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Defense and security cooperation, including
26	26	longstanding ventures such as the F-35 fighter jet program based
27	27	in Fort Worth, highlights the shared commitment to peace and
28	28	stability; at the same time, the two partners look to the future
29	29	through collaboration on critical areas like innovation,
30	30	technology, advanced manufacturing, and a secure energy
31	31	infrastructure, especially as they seek to build resilient
32	32	supply chains and sustainable energy solutions; and
33	33	WHEREAS, Further underscoring the value of this
34	34	relationship, Governor Greg Abbott and The Rt Hon Kemi Badenoch
35	35	MP, Secretary of State for Business and Trade of the United
36	36	Kingdom, signed a Statement of Mutual Cooperation in March 2023;
37	37	through this landmark agreement, the Participants pledged to
38	38	deepen economic ties, promote trade and investment, foster
39	39	innovation, and coordinate efforts to bolster emerging
40	40	industries, showcasing a shared vision to cultivate job creation
41	41	and prosperity on both sides of the Atlantic; and
42	42	WHEREAS, By supporting an open dialogue on trade and
43	43	commerce within state jurisdiction and advocating for greater
44	44	collaboration at all levels of government, Texas and the UK
45	45	demonstrate their continued commitment to working in tandem for a
46	46	stronger bilateral relationship; the friendship between Texans
47	47	and Britons, and fostered by ongoing cultural and economic
48	48	engagement, will continue to grow in the years ahead; now,
49	49	therefore, be it
50	50	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
51	51	Legislature, hereby recognizes the vital importance of the
52	52	enduring and evolving partnership between the StateofTexasand
53	53	the United Kingdom, commend all those individuals who have worked
54	54	and continue to work toward maintaining and strengthening this
55	55	remarkable friendship, and celebrate the recent signing of the
56	56	Statement of Mutual Cooperation as a testament to the lasting
57	57	bonds between Texans and Britons; and, be it further
58	58	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
59	59	prepared for the Consul General of the United Kingdom in Houston
60	60	and the British Ambassador to the United States in Washington,
61	61	D.C., as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
