6 | 6 | | headed by British Consul General Sujeevan Satheesan is visiting |

7 | 7 | | the State Capitol on February 11, 2025; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, This special relationship dates back nearly two |
---|
9 | 9 | | centuries; Sam Houston, president of the Republic of Texas, was |
---|
10 | 10 | | the first Texas leader to send a diplomatic mission to London, |
---|
11 | 11 | | and a plaque on St. James Street still marks the site of the |
---|
12 | 12 | | legation of the Republic of Texas; in addition, the first British |
---|
13 | 13 | | Consulate in the State of Texas was established in Galveston in |
---|
14 | 14 | | 1846; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The United Kingdom remains one of Texas's most |

16 | 16 | | significant economic partners; it is the top source of foreign |
---|
17 | 17 | | direct investment in the Lone Star State, with subsidiaries of |
---|
18 | 18 | | British companies accounting for tens of thousands of Texas jobs; |
---|
19 | 19 | | every year, British households and businesses purchase billions |
---|
20 | 20 | | of dollars in services and goods from Texas, including petroleum |
---|
21 | 21 | | products, aerospace components, and medical equipment, among |
---|
22 | 22 | | others; major airlines connect Texas cities daily to the UK, |

23 | 23 | | promoting commerce and tourism that bring our two peoples ever |
---|

25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Defense and security cooperation, including |

26 | 26 | | longstanding ventures such as the F-35 fighter jet program based |

27 | 27 | | in Fort Worth, highlights the shared commitment to peace and |

28 | 28 | | stability; at the same time, the two partners look to the future |
---|
29 | 29 | | through collaboration on critical areas like innovation, |

30 | 30 | | technology, advanced manufacturing, and a secure energy |

31 | 31 | | infrastructure, especially as they seek to build resilient |
