28 WHEREAS, Many notable citizens of Lubbock are visiting the

3035 "Opportunity Cities," based on its low cost of living, its cultural
3136 resources, and the strength of its business community; and
3237 WHEREAS, Lubbock has a diverse economy that draws its
33- strength from agribusiness, manufacturing, and oil and gas, as
34- well as from educational and health care services,
35- entertainment, and the largest medical infrastructure in Texas
36- west of I-35; the city's meticulously planned infrastructure has
37- resulted in a low-traffic community with more neighborhood parks
38- per capita than any other city in Texas; and

48- Orchestra, Ballet Lubbock, the Silent Wings Museum, the Museum
49- and Planetarium of Texas Tech University, the new Buddy Holly
50- Hall, a state-of-the-art performing arts center, and many more;
51- those wanting a glimpse of frontier history can find it in the
52- restored structures at the National Ranching Heritage Center, a
53- 15-acre site tracing the evolution of ranch operations,
54- architecture, and the history and traditions of the cattle
55- industry; the region's history is also celebrated at the
56- ever-expanding FiberMax Center for Discovery and the picturesque
57- American Windmill Museum; and

64- John Denver, Pat Green, and William Clark Green; their rich and
65- diverse contributions have earned Lubbock recognition as the
66- Music Crossroads of Texas; and

75- railroad to Lubbock, establishing the South Plains Fair, and
76- drafting and delivering to the Texas Capitol the application that
77- would result in establishing Texas Technological College, which
78- today is the heart of the Texas Tech University System; and
79- WHEREAS, The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce was instrumental
80- in establishing Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport,

94- surrounding region; now, therefore, be it
95- RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th
96- Legislature, hereby recognize February 19, 2025, as Lubbock Day
97- at the State Capitol and extend to the members of the visiting
98- delegation and all their fellow citizens sincere appreciation
99- for the bright dusty aura they add to the Lone Star State.
