2323 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Protecting Individual 4
2424 Sovereignty Through Our Laws Act’’ or the ‘‘PISTOL 5
2525 Act’’. 6

2929 SEC. 2. UPDATED RIFLE DEFINITION UNDER NATIONAL 1

3131 Section 5845(c) of the Internal Revenue Code of 3
3232 1986 is amended to read as follows: 4
3333 ‘‘(c) R
3434 IFLE.—The term ‘rifle’ means a weapon origi-5
3535 nally designed or redesigned, made or remade, and origi-6
3636 nally intended by its maker or manufacturer to be fired 7
3737 from the shoulder and designed or redesigned and made 8
3838 or remade to use the energy of the explosive in a fixed 9
3939 cartridge to fire only a single projectile through a rifled 10
4040 bore for each single pull of the trigger, and shall include 11
4141 any such weapon which may be readily restored to fire 12
4242 a fixed cartridge. For purposes of the preceding sentence, 13
4343 such term shall not include a pistol equipped with a rear 14
4444 brace or rear attachment which can be used to assist the 15
4545 shooter in controlling the pistol, even if such brace or at-16
4646 tachment can also be placed against the shoulder.’’. 17
4747 SEC. 3. UPDATED PISTOL DEFINITION UNDER CODE OF 18
4848 FEDERAL REGULATIONS. 19
4949 Within 60 days of the date of the enactment of this 20
5050 section, the Attorney General shall amend subpart B of 21
5151 part 479 of subchapter B of chapter II of title 27, Code 22
5252 of Federal Regulations to clarify that a pistol has the fol-23
5353 lowing definition: 24
5454 ‘‘Pistol. A concealable weapon originally designed, made, 25
5555 and intended to fire a projectile (bullet) from one or more 26

5959 barrels when held by a user, and having (a) a chamber(s) 1
6060 that is an integral part of, or permanently aligned with, 2
6161 a bore(s); and (b) one or more short stocks designed to 3
6262 be gripped by the user with said stocks at an angle to 4
6363 and extending below the line of the bore(s). The presence 5
6464 or absence of rear mounted braces or attachments which 6
6565 can assist a user in controlling the pistol shall not cause 7
6666 a firearm that otherwise meets this definition from being 8
