To provide that no Federal funds shall be used to alter,
change, destroy, or remove, in whole or in part, any
name, face, or other feature on the Mount Rushmore
National Memorial.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1
tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Mount Rushmore Pro-4
tection Act’’. 5
SEC. 2. FINDINGS. 6
Congress finds the following: 7

(1) Mount Rushmore National Memorial is 1
America’s Shrine of Democracy. 2
(2) The Mount Rushmore National Memorial 3
depicts the faces of Presidents George Washington, 4
Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abra-5
ham Lincoln, with the beauty of the Black Hills of 6
South Dakota. 7
SEC. 3. PROHIBITION ON USE OF FEDERAL FUNDS. 8
No Federal funds shall be used to alter, change, de-9
stroy, or remove, in whole or in part, any name, face, or 10
other feature on the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. 11
SEC. 4. DESIGNATION OF MOUNT RUSHMORE. 12
(a) I
NGENERAL.—The mountain at Mount Rush-13
more, South Dakota, located at N 43° 53.559′ W 103° 14
28.246′, shall be known and designated as ‘‘Mount Rush-15
more’’. 16
(b) R
EFERENCES.—Any reference in any law, map, 17
regulation, order, document, paper, or other record of the 18
United States to the mountain and area described in sub-19
section (a) shall be deemed to be a reference to ‘‘Mount 20
Rushmore’’. 21
