SHORT TITLE. 1 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Protect Veteran Jobs 2 Act’’. 3 SEC. 2. REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBILITY FOR VETERAN FED-4 ERAL EMPLOYEES; EXECUTIVE BRANCH 5 AGENCY REPORTS ON REMOVAL OF VET-6 ERANS. 7 (a) R EINSTATEMENT.—Any individual who is a vet-8 eran and who was involuntarily removed or otherwise dis-9 missed without cause from a civil service position during 10 the period beginning on January 20, 2025, and ending 11 on the date of the enactment of this section shall be eligi-12 ble for reinstatement to such position or any other civil 13 service position for which the individual is qualified. 14 (b) R EPORT.— 15 (1) I N GENERAL.—Not later than 60 days after 16 the date of the enactment of this Act and every 17 three months thereafter, the head of each executive 18 branch agency of the Federal Government shall sub-19 mit, to the appropriate congressional committees, a 20 report on veteran employees of such agency who 21 were removed or otherwise dismissed from the agen-22 cy. 23 (2) C ONTENTS.—Any report submitted under 24 paragraph (1) shall include— 25 VerDate Sep 11 2014 05:02 Mar 14, 2025 Jkt 059200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H1637.IH H1637 kjohnson on DSK7ZCZBW3PROD with $$_JOB 3 •HR 1637 IH (A) the total number of veteran employees 1 removed or otherwise dismissed from the agency 2 during the period covered by the report; and 3 (B) the reason for each such removal or 4 dismissal. 5 (3) S UNSET.—The requirement to submit re-6 ports under this subsection shall terminate on Janu-7 ary 20, 2029. 8 (c) D EFINITIONS.—In this section— 9 (1) the term ‘‘appropriate congressional com-10 mittees’’ means— 11 (A) the Committee on Oversight and Gov-12 ernment Reform and the Committee on Vet-13 erans’ Affairs of the House of Representatives; 14 and 15 (B) the Committee on Homeland Security 16 and Governmental Affairs and the Committee 17 on Veterans’ Affairs of the Senate; 18 (2) the term ‘‘civil service’’ has the meaning 19 given that term in section 2101 of title 5, United 20 States Code; and 21 (3) the term ‘‘veteran’’ has the meaning given 22 that term in section 101 of title 38, United States 23 Code. 24 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 05:02 Mar 14, 2025 Jkt 059200 PO 00000 Frm 00003 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\H1637.IH H1637 kjohnson on DSK7ZCZBW3PROD with $$_JOB
