A BILL
To amend the Public Health Service Act to reauthorize sup-
port for State-based maternal mortality review commit-
tees, to direct the Secretary of Health and Human Serv-
ices to disseminate best practices on maternal mortality
prevention to hospitals, State-based professional societies,
and perinatal quality collaboratives, and for other pur-
poses.

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 1
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Preventing Maternal 2
Deaths Reauthorization Act of 2025’’. 3
SEC. 2. PREVENTING MATERNAL DEATHS. 4
(a) M
ATERNALMORTALITYREVIEWCOMMITTEE.— 5
Section 317K(d) of the Public Health Service Act (42 6
U.S.C. 247b–12(d)) is amended— 7
(1) in paragraph (1)(A), by inserting ‘‘(includ-8
ing obstetricians and gynecologists)’’ after ‘‘clinical 9
specialties’’; and 10
(2) in paragraph (3)(A)(i)— 11
(A) in subclause (I), by striking ‘‘as appli-12
cable’’ and inserting ‘‘if available’’; and 13
(B) in subclause (III), by striking ‘‘, as ap-14
propriate’’ and inserting ‘‘and coordinating with 15
death certifiers to improve the collection of 16
death record reports and the quality of death 17
records, including by amending cause-of-death 18
information on a death certificate, as appro-19
priate’’. 20

(1) by redesignating subsections (e) and (f) as 25

‘‘(1) I
N GENERAL.—The Secretary, acting 5
through the Director of the Centers for Disease 6
Control and Prevention, shall, in consultation with 7
the Administrator of the Health Resources and Serv-8
ices Administration, disseminate to hospitals, State 9
professional society groups, and perinatal quality 10
collaboratives, best practices on how to prevent ma-11
ternal mortality and morbidity that consider and re-12
flect best practices identified through other relevant 13
Federal maternal health programs. 14
‘‘(2) F
REQUENCY.—The Secretary, acting 15
through the Director of the Centers for Disease 16
Control and Prevention, shall disseminate the best 17
practices referred to in paragraph (1) not less than 18
once per fiscal year.’’. 19
(c) E
XTENSION.—Subsection (g) of section 317K of 20
the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. 247b–12), as 21
redesignated by subsection (b), is amended by striking 22
‘‘$58,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2019 through 2023’’ 23
