3333 NGENERAL.—Paragraph (1) of section 51(d) of 3
3434 the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by striking 4
3535 ‘‘or’’ at the end of subparagraph (I), by striking the period 5
3636 at the end of subparagraph (J) and inserting ‘‘, or’’, and 6
3737 by adding at the end the following new subparagraph: 7
3838 ‘‘(K) a qualified military spouse.’’. 8

4040 UALIFIEDMILITARYSPOUSE.—Subsection (d) 9
4141 of section 51 of such Code is amended by adding at the 10
4242 end the following new paragraph: 11
4343 ‘‘(16) Q
4444 UALIFIED MILITARY SPOUSE .—The 12
4545 term ‘qualified military spouse’ means any individual 13
4646 who is certified by the designated local agency as 14
4747 being (as of the hiring date) a spouse of a member 15
4848 of the Armed Forces of the United States.’’. 16

5050 FFECTIVEDATE.—The amendments made by 17
5151 this section shall apply to amounts paid or incurred after 18
5252 the date of the enactment of this Act to individuals who 19
5353 begin work for the employer after such date. 20
