A BILL 
To require the District of Columbia to comply with federal 
immigration laws. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1
tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘District of Columbia 4
Federal Immigration Compliance Act’’. 5
SEC. 2. PROHIBITION ON DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA SERVING 6
AS SANCTUARY JURISDICTION. 7
(a) I
NGENERAL.—Except as provided under sub-8
section (b), the District of Columbia may not have in ef-9
fect a statute, ordinance, policy, or practice that prohibits 10

or restricts any entity or official of the District govern-1
ment from— 2
(1) sending, receiving, maintaining, or exchang-3
ing with any Federal, State, or local government en-4
tity information regarding the citizenship or immi-5
gration status (lawful or unlawful) of any individual; 6
or 7
(2) complying with a request lawfully made by 8
the Department of Homeland Security under section 9
236 or 287 of the Immigration and Nationality Act 10
(8 U.S.C. 1226 and 1357) to comply with a detainer 11
for, or notify about the release of, an individual. 12
(b) E
XCEPTION.—The District of Columbia is not in 13
violation of subsection (a) solely because it has a policy 14
whereby its officials will not share information regarding 15
an individual who comes forward as a victim or a witness 16
to a criminal offense, or comply with a request made by 17
the Department of Homeland Security under section 236 18
or 287 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 19
1226 and 1357) to comply with a detainer regarding an 20
individual who comes forward as a victim or a witness to 21
a criminal offense. 22
