To amend title 36, United States Code, to designate ‘‘Na-
tional Rosie the Riveter Day’’ and request the President
to issue an annual proclamation.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1
tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘National Rosie the Riv-4
eter Day Act’’. 5
SEC. 2. FINDINGS. 6
Congress finds the following: 7
(1) National Rosie the Riveter Day is a collec-8
tive national effort to raise awareness of the more 9

than 6,000,000 American women who joined the 1
workforce during World War II. 2
(2) The people of the United States have cho-3
sen to honor women workers who contributed to the 4
home front during World War II, including through 5
the award of a Congressional Gold Medal. 6
(3) These women left their homes to work or 7
volunteer full-time in factories, farms, shipyards, air-8
plane factories, banks, and other institutions in sup-9
port of the war effort. 10
(4) These women worked with the United Serv-11
ice Organizations and the American Red Cross, 12
drove trucks, riveted airplane parts, collected critical 13
materials, rolled bandages, and served on rationing 14
boards. 15
(5) These women in the workforce persevered 16
often in the face of harassment, discrimination, and 17
prejudice to support their country and families in a 18
time of great need. 19
(6) Women of color overcame long-held policies 20
of discrimination and racial segregation to make sig-21
nificant contributions to the war effort and work-22
force. 23
(7) Our ‘‘Rosie the Riveters,’’ the American 24
women who worked and sacrificed during World War 25

II, are a testament to women’s empowerment and 1
invaluable contribution to the war effort, inspiring 2
future generations of women and girls. 3
(8) It is fitting and proper to recognize and 4
preserve the history and legacy of working women, 5
including volunteer women, during World War II to 6
promote cooperation and fellowship among such 7
women and their descendants. 8
(9) These women and their descendants wish to 9
further the advancement of patriotic ideas, excel-10
lence in the workplace, and loyalty to the United 11
States of America. 12
(10) March 21, during Women’s History 13
Month, would be an appropriate date to designate as 14
‘‘National Rosie the Riveter Day’’. 15
SEC. 3. DESIGNATION OF NATIONAL ROSIE THE RIVETER 16
DAY. 17
(a) I
NGENERAL.—Chapter 1 of title 36, United 18
States Code, is amended by adding at the end the fol-19
lowing new section: 20
‘‘SEC. 149. NATIONAL ROSIE THE RIVETER DAY. 21
‘‘The President is requested to issue each year a 22
proclamation— 23

‘‘(1) calling on the people of the United States 1
to observe National Rosie the Riveter Day with ap-2
propriate ceremonies and activities; and 3
‘‘(2) urging civil and educational authorities of 4
States, territorial, tribal, and local governments to 5
observe National Rosie the Riveter Day through ap-6
propriate programs and activities.’’. 7
(b) C
ONFORMINGAMENDMENT.—The table of sec-8
tions for such chapter is amended by adding at the end 9
the following new item: 10
‘‘149. National Rosie the Riveter Day.’’.
