To amend the Antiquities Act to increase congressional over-
sight with respect to the designation of national monu-
ments, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1
tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Congressional Over-4
sight of the Antiquities Act’’. 5
SEC. 2. AMENDMENT TO ANTIQUITIES ACT. 6
Section 320301 of title 54, United States Code (com-7
monly referred to as the ‘‘Antiquities Act’’), is amended— 8

(1) by redesignating subsections (c) and (d) as 1
subsections (d) and (e), respectively; and 2
(2) by inserting after subsection (b) the fol-3
lowing: 4
‘‘(c) L
IMITATIONS.— 5
‘‘(1) I
N GENERAL.—Unless extended or modi-6
fied by statute, the establishment of a national 7
monument under subsection (a) or reservation of a 8
parcel of land under subsection (b) shall be effective 9
only until the earlier of the following: 10
‘‘(A) The date that is 6 months after the 11
date of the establishment or reservation. 12
‘‘(B) The last day of the Congress sitting 13
at the time of the establishment or reservation. 14
‘‘(2) L
IMITATION ON FUTURE MONUMENTS .—If 15
a national monument established under subsection 16
(a) or reservation of a parcel of land made under 17
subsection (b) is not extended or modified during the 18
effective period described in paragraph (1), or is oth-19
erwise rejected by statute, the land or property in-20
cluded within the boundaries of such national monu-21
ment or parcel of land may not be included in the 22
extension or establishment of a national monument 23
under this section for a period of 25 years.’’. 24
