To require the Secretary of Homeland Security to assess
drone deployment to improve border security and disrupt
maritime or low-altitude drug smuggling along the
United States coastline, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1
tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Coastal Drone Surveil-4
lance and Interdiction Assessment Act’’. 5

SEC. 2. ASSESSMENT OF DRONE DEPLOYMENT TO IMPROVE 1
BORDER SECURITY AND DISRUPT MARITIME 2
OR LOW-ALTITUDE DRUG SMUGGLING ALONG 3
THE UNITED STATES COASTLINE. 4
Not later than 180 days after the date of the enact-5
ment of this Act, the Secretary of Homeland Security, in 6
consultation with the heads of relevant Federal depart-7
ments or agencies as the Secretary determines appro-8
priate, shall submit to the Committee on Homeland Secu-9
rity of the House of Representatives and the Committee 10
on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs of the 11
Senate an assessment of the effectiveness, risks, and po-12
tential of drone deployment to improve border security and 13
disrupt maritime or low-altitude drug smuggling along the 14
United States coastline. Such assessment shall focus on 15
major trafficking corridors across the United States, as 16
well as on communities in remote, insular, or hard-to- 17
reach areas. 18
