20-amended by redesignating subsections (c), (d), and (e) as 9
21-subsections (d), (e), and (f), respectively, and by inserting 10
22-after subsection (b) the following new subsection: 11

27-N GENERAL.—The Secretary (after con-14
28-sultation with the Administrator of the Federal 15
29-Emergency Management Agency) may, upon the 16
30-written request of the Governor of a State (or the 17
31-Mayor, in the case of the District of Columbia), 18
32-apply the rules of subsections (a) and (b) to a quali-19
33-fied State declared disaster in the same manner as 20
34-a disaster, fire, or action otherwise described in sub-21
35-section (a). 22
48+N GENERAL.—The Secretary (after con-16
49+sultation with the Administrator of the Federal 17
50+Emergency Management Agency) may, upon the writ-18
51+ten request of the Governor of a State (or the Mayor, 19
52+in the case of the District of Columbia), apply the 20
53+rules of subsections (a) and (b) to a qualified State 21
54+declared disaster in the same manner as a disaster, 22
55+fire, or action otherwise described in subsection (a). 23

39-‘qualified State declared disaster’ means, with re-25
40-spect to any State, any natural catastrophe (includ-26 3

42-ing any hurricane, tornado, storm, high water, 1
43-winddriven water, tidal wave, tsunami, earthquake, 2
44-volcanic eruption, landslide, mudslide, snowstorm, or 3
45-drought), or, regardless of cause, any fire, flood, or 4
46-explosion, in any part of the State, which in the de-5
47-termination of the Governor of such State (or the 6
48-Mayor, in the case of the District of Columbia) 7
49-causes damage of sufficient severity and magnitude 8
50-to warrant the application of the rules of this sec-9
51-tion. 10

62+declared disaster’ means, with respect to any State, 1
63+any natural catastrophe (including any hurricane, 2
64+tornado, storm, high water, winddriven water, tidal 3
65+wave, tsunami, earthquake, volcanic eruption, land-4
66+slide, mudslide, snowstorm, or drought), or, regardless 5
67+of cause, any fire, flood, or explosion, in any part of 6
68+the State, which in the determination of the Governor 7
69+of such State (or the Mayor, in the case of the District 8
70+of Columbia) causes damage of sufficient severity and 9
