Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘American Consumer 4
Awareness of National Source Act’’ or the ‘‘American 5
CANS Act’’. 6

SEC. 2. METHOD OF NOTIFICATION OF COUNTRY OF ORI-1
GIN OF AN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCT PACK-2
AGED IN A CAN. 3
(a) I
NGENERAL.—Section 304(b) of the Tariff Act 4
of 1930 (19 U.S.C. 1304(b)) is amended by inserting after 5
the first sentence the following: ‘‘In the case of such an 6
article that is an agricultural product (as defined in sec-7
tion 207 of the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946) pack-8
aged in a can, the marking required under this subsection 9
shall appear on the front label of the can or be stamped, 10
embossed, or printed on the top of the can.’’. 11
(b) E
FFECTIVEDATE.—The amendment made by 12
subsection (a) shall only apply to agricultural products im-13
ported on or after the date that is 18 months after the 14
date of enactment of this Act. 15
