6161 Whereas public education is the foundation of a 21st-century
6262 democracy;
6363 Whereas the Nation’s public schools are where students come
6464 to be educated as citizens of the United States;
6565 Whereas each public school prepares the Nation’s young peo-
6666 ple to contribute to the society, economy, and citizenry of
6767 the country;
6868 Whereas, according to 2021 data from the National Center
6969 for Education Statistics, an estimated 90 percent of chil-
7070 dren in the United States attend public schools;
7171 Whereas local, State, and Federal lawmakers should
7272 prioritize support for strengthening the Nation’s public
7373 schools and empower local education leaders to imple-
7474 ment, manage, and lead school districts in partnership
7575 with educators, parents, and other local education stake-
7676 holders and learning communities;
7777 Whereas local, State, and Federal lawmakers should support
7878 such necessities as counseling, extracurricular activities,
7979 and mental health supports that are critical to help stu-
8080 dents engage in learning;
8181 Whereas inclusive and safe high-quality public schools are
8282 where children learn to think critically, problem solve,
8383 and build relationships;
8484 Whereas public schools should provide an environment where
8585 all students can succeed beginning in their earliest years,
8686 regardless of who they are or where they live;

9090 Whereas efforts should be supported to advance equity and
9191 excellence in public education and to implement contin-
9292 uous improvement and evidence-based practices;
9393 Whereas every child has the right to an education that helps
9494 them reach their full potential and to attend schools that
9595 offer a high-quality educational experience;
9696 Whereas stable, equitable, predictable, and adequate funding
9797 for great public schools for every student in the United
9898 States is necessary to ensure that students have inviting
9999 classrooms and school libraries with up-to-date resources
100100 as well as well-prepared and supported educators;
101101 Whereas educators include teachers, paraprofessionals, and
102102 principals who provide a well-rounded and complete cur-
103103 riculum and create joy in learning;
104104 Whereas the Nation’s school buildings should have class sizes
105105 small enough to allow students to receive one-on-one at-
106106 tention and to access support services such as health
107107 care, nutrition, and after-school programs when needed;
108108 Whereas students, teachers, and professionals make the Na-
109109 tion’s public schools vital components of the community;
110110 Whereas parents and communities are working hard to im-
111111 prove educational outcomes for children across the coun-
112112 try; and
113113 Whereas the week of February 24 through February 28,
114114 2025, would be an appropriate period to designate as
115115 ‘‘Public Schools Week’’: Now, therefore, be it
116116 Resolved, That the House of Representatives supports 1
117117 the designation of ‘‘Public Schools Week’’. 2
