61	61	Whereas public education is the foundation of a 21st-century
62	62	democracy;
63	63	Whereas the Nation’s public schools are where students come
64	64	to be educated as citizens of the United States;
65	65	Whereas each public school prepares the Nation’s young peo-
66	66	ple to contribute to the society, economy, and citizenry of
67	67	the country;
68	68	Whereas, according to 2021 data from the National Center
69	69	for Education Statistics, an estimated 90 percent of chil-
70	70	dren in the United States attend public schools;
71	71	Whereas local, State, and Federal lawmakers should
72	72	prioritize support for strengthening the Nation’s public
73	73	schools and empower local education leaders to imple-
74	74	ment, manage, and lead school districts in partnership
75	75	with educators, parents, and other local education stake-
76	76	holders and learning communities;
77	77	Whereas local, State, and Federal lawmakers should support
78	78	such necessities as counseling, extracurricular activities,
79	79	and mental health supports that are critical to help stu-
80	80	dents engage in learning;
81	81	Whereas inclusive and safe high-quality public schools are
82	82	where children learn to think critically, problem solve,
83	83	and build relationships;
84	84	Whereas public schools should provide an environment where
85	85	all students can succeed beginning in their earliest years,
86	86	regardless of who they are or where they live;

90	90	Whereas efforts should be supported to advance equity and
91	91	excellence in public education and to implement contin-
92	92	uous improvement and evidence-based practices;
93	93	Whereas every child has the right to an education that helps
94	94	them reach their full potential and to attend schools that
95	95	offer a high-quality educational experience;
96	96	Whereas stable, equitable, predictable, and adequate funding
97	97	for great public schools for every student in the United
98	98	States is necessary to ensure that students have inviting
99	99	classrooms and school libraries with up-to-date resources
100	100	as well as well-prepared and supported educators;
101	101	Whereas educators include teachers, paraprofessionals, and
102	102	principals who provide a well-rounded and complete cur-
103	103	riculum and create joy in learning;
104	104	Whereas the Nation’s school buildings should have class sizes
105	105	small enough to allow students to receive one-on-one at-
106	106	tention and to access support services such as health
107	107	care, nutrition, and after-school programs when needed;
108	108	Whereas students, teachers, and professionals make the Na-
109	109	tion’s public schools vital components of the community;
110	110	Whereas parents and communities are working hard to im-
111	111	prove educational outcomes for children across the coun-
112	112	try; and
113	113	Whereas the week of February 24 through February 28,
114	114	2025, would be an appropriate period to designate as
115	115	‘‘Public Schools Week’’: Now, therefore, be it
116	116	Resolved, That the House of Representatives supports 1
117	117	the designation of ‘‘Public Schools Week’’. 2
