1313 Recognizing the patriotism and contributions of veterans
1414 service organizations, veteran advocacy groups, and vol-
1515 unteers.
1616 Whereas, for nearly a century, veterans service organizations,
1717 veteran advocacy groups, and volunteers have served as
1818 a complementary and integral part of supporting mem-
1919 bers of the Armed Forces, veterans, and their families;
2020 Whereas, since their inception, veterans service organizations,
2121 veteran advocacy groups, and volunteers have proudly
2222 supported members of the Armed Forces, veterans, and
2323 the families of those who have served, volunteering mil-
2424 lions of hours and raising billions of dollars;
2525 Whereas veterans service organizations, veteran advocacy
2626 groups, and volunteers have representatives in all 50
2727 States, territories, and abroad;

3131 Whereas auxiliary units of veterans service organizations, vet-
3232 eran advocacy groups, and volunteers have more than
3333 1,000,000 members and are composed of wives, widows,
3434 mothers, grandmothers, daughters, and granddaughters
3535 of veterans, as well as veterans themselves;
3636 Whereas veterans service organizations, veteran advocacy
3737 groups, and volunteers have raised money to aid and en-
3838 hance the lives of members of the Armed Forces, vet-
3939 erans, and their families through financial support—pro-
4040 viding assistance with essentials such as rent, child care,
4141 utilities, and food;
4242 Whereas veterans service organizations, veteran advocacy
4343 groups, and volunteers host ‘‘stand-downs’’ that focus on
4444 providing vital health and support services to homeless
4545 veterans;
4646 Whereas veterans service organizations, veteran advocacy
4747 groups, and volunteers strengthen their local communities
4848 by conducting food drives, visiting hospitals, and pro-
4949 viding scholarships to youth;
5050 Whereas veterans service organizations, veteran advocacy
5151 groups, and volunteers serve as advocates for veterans
5252 and their families;
5353 Whereas veterans service organizations, veteran advocacy
5454 groups, and volunteers conduct welcome home and send-
5555 off events for members of the Armed Forces;
5656 Whereas section 1491 of title 10, United States Code, as
5757 amended by section 578 of the National Defense Author-
5858 ization Act of 2000 (Public Law 106–65), directed the
5959 Department of Defense to provide every veteran, upon re-
6060 quest, a funeral honors detail consisting of at least two

6464 uniformed service members, a flag ceremony, and the
6565 playing of Taps;
6666 Whereas veterans service organizations, veteran advocacy
6767 groups, and volunteers provide military honor ceremonies
6868 for fallen veterans and their families and for their com-
6969 mitment and sacrifice to ensure veterans are laid to rest
7070 with the honor and ceremony they earned through selfless
7171 service to the people of the United States in the Armed
7272 Forces;
7373 Whereas members of veteran service organizations selflessly
7474 volunteer their services at facilities of the Department of
7575 Veterans Affairs throughout the country to enhance the
7676 lives of veterans and their families; and
7777 Whereas each year, auxiliary units of veterans service organi-
7878 zations, veteran advocacy groups, and volunteers raise
7979 millions of dollars for cancer research: Now, therefore, be

8181 Resolved, That the House of Representatives— 1
8282 (1) honors and recognizes the patriotism and 2
8383 countless contributions to the United States by gen-3
8484 erations of veterans service organizations, veteran 4
8585 advocacy groups, and volunteers; 5
8686 (2) commends members of veterans service or-6
8787 ganizations, veteran advocacy groups, and volunteers 7
8888 in the United States, territories, and abroad for 8
8989 their dedicated service to and support of members of 9
9090 the Armed Forces and veterans as well as their fam-10
9191 ilies and communities; 11
