1414 Supporting the designation of April 2025 as ‘‘National
1515 Native Plant Month’’.
1616 Whereas native plants are indigenous species that have
1717 evolved alongside native wildlife and occur naturally in a
1818 particular geographic region, ecosystem, and habitat;
1919 Whereas there are more than 17,000 native plant species in
2020 the United States, which include large shade trees, un-
2121 derstory trees, shrubs, perennials, vines, grasses, and
2222 wildflowers;
2323 Whereas native plants are essential for healthy, diverse, and
2424 sustainable ecosystems and are critical for cleaning air,
2525 filtering water, and stabilizing soils;
2626 Whereas native plants are well-adapted to specific soils, tem-
2727 peratures, precipitation, and environmental conditions,

3333 Whereas native plants provide shelter, as well as nectar, pol-
3434 len, seeds, and foliage that serve as food for native but-
3535 terflies, caterpillars, birds, bees, and other wildlife in
3636 ways that non-native plants cannot;
3737 Whereas more than 200 of the native plant species in the
3838 United States are estimated to have been lost since the
3939 early 19th century;
4040 Whereas habitat loss and degradation, extreme weather
4141 events, and invasive species have contributed to the de-
4242 cline of native plants in the United States; and
4343 Whereas native plants are essential components of resilient
4444 ecosystems and our natural heritage: Now, therefore, be
4545 it
4646 Resolved, That the House of Representatives— 1
4747 (1) supports the designation of ‘‘National Na-2
4848 tive Plant Month’’; and 3
4949 (2) recognizes the benefits of native plants to 4
5050 the environment and the economy of the United 5
