1515 Expressing support for designating Iranian American
1616 Heritage Month.
1717 Whereas the United States Census Bureau estimates there to
1818 be over 540,000 individuals of Iranian descent residing in
1919 the United States;
2020 Whereas the United States is home to the largest diaspora
2121 community of Iranian Americans in the world, with the
2222 largest hub located in Los Angeles, California;
2323 Whereas Iranian Americans have established deep roots in
2424 communities across the United States, from Los Angeles,
2525 to Phoenix, to New York, and enriched our social, eco-
2626 nomic, political, and cultural tapestry;
2727 Whereas the Iranian New Year ‘‘Nowruz’’, which translates
2828 to ‘‘new day’’, is celebrated on the Spring Equinox by

3232 thousands of Americans and symbolizes renewal, hope,
3333 and harmony with nature;
3434 Whereas Iranian Americans have made significant contribu-
3535 tions to the United States in fields such as science, medi-
3636 cine, technology, business, academia, public service, and
3737 the arts;
3838 Whereas two members of the Iranian-American community
3939 currently serve in the United States Congress;
4040 Whereas a 2010 study by the Small Business Administration
4141 found that Iranian Americans are among the top 20 im-
4242 migrant groups with the highest rate of business owner-
4343 ship, owning over 33,000 businesses and generating bil-
4444 lions in net income;
4545 Whereas the Iranian people have contributed to modern civili-
4646 zation for millennia, bringing forth the Cyrus Cylinder as
4747 the world’s first human rights document and the Bani
4848 Adam poem by Sa’adi Shirazi describing all humans as
4949 part of one equal body which is inscribed on the entrance
5050 to the United Nations;
5151 Whereas Iranian Americans have served in senior capacities
5252 in both Republican and Democratic administrations, and
5353 have held elected positions in State and local govern-
5454 ments across the United States;
5555 Whereas Iranian Americans have and continue to serve with
5656 distinction in the United States military and law enforce-
5757 ment, upholding the Constitution and safeguarding na-
5858 tional security;
5959 Whereas the Iranian American Contributions Project esti-
6060 mates that Iranian-American publications have been cited
6161 over 2,000,000 times, and Iranian-American inventors
6262 have filed for over 4,000 patents;

6666 Whereas the Iranian-American community is religiously di-
6767 verse, including Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Zoroastrian,
6868 and other faiths, contributing to the rich cultural mosaic
6969 of the United States;
7070 Whereas many Iranian Americans have overcome significant
7171 hardships as immigrants and refugees fleeing the brutal
7272 and dictatorial Islamic Republic;
7373 Whereas the Iranian-American community has turned adver-
7474 sity into action, with thousands taking part in the peace-
7575 ful ‘‘Woman, Life, Freedom’’ protests across the United
7676 States to demand an end to the Islamic Republic’s vio-
7777 lence, including against Iranian women and ethnic mi-
7878 norities and repression of the Iranian people;
7979 Whereas, on January 26, 2023, the United States House of
8080 Representatives passed House Concurrent Resolution 7,
8181 commending the bravery, courage, and resolve of the Ira-
8282 nian people; and
8383 Whereas the Iranian-American community is an integral part
8484 of American society, and their contributions, culture, and
8585 spirit have made our Nation a better place: Now, there-
8686 fore, be it
8787 Resolved, That the House of Representatives— 1

8989 ican Heritage Month; 3
9090 (2) acknowledges the significant contributions 4
9191 Iranian Americans have made to our Nation’s cul-5
9292 ture, economy, and developments in the fields of 6
