14	14	RESOLUTION
15	15	Expressing support for designating Iranian American
16	16	Heritage Month.
17	17	Whereas the United States Census Bureau estimates there to
18	18	be over 540,000 individuals of Iranian descent residing in
19	19	the United States;
20	20	Whereas the United States is home to the largest diaspora
21	21	community of Iranian Americans in the world, with the
22	22	largest hub located in Los Angeles, California;
23	23	Whereas Iranian Americans have established deep roots in
24	24	communities across the United States, from Los Angeles,
25	25	to Phoenix, to New York, and enriched our social, eco-
26	26	nomic, political, and cultural tapestry;
27	27	Whereas the Iranian New Year ‘‘Nowruz’’, which translates
28	28	to ‘‘new day’’, is celebrated on the Spring Equinox by

32	32	thousands of Americans and symbolizes renewal, hope,
33	33	and harmony with nature;
34	34	Whereas Iranian Americans have made significant contribu-
35	35	tions to the United States in fields such as science, medi-
36	36	cine, technology, business, academia, public service, and
37	37	the arts;
38	38	Whereas two members of the Iranian-American community
39	39	currently serve in the United States Congress;
40	40	Whereas a 2010 study by the Small Business Administration
41	41	found that Iranian Americans are among the top 20 im-
42	42	migrant groups with the highest rate of business owner-
43	43	ship, owning over 33,000 businesses and generating bil-
44	44	lions in net income;
45	45	Whereas the Iranian people have contributed to modern civili-
46	46	zation for millennia, bringing forth the Cyrus Cylinder as
47	47	the world’s first human rights document and the Bani
48	48	Adam poem by Sa’adi Shirazi describing all humans as
49	49	part of one equal body which is inscribed on the entrance
50	50	to the United Nations;
51	51	Whereas Iranian Americans have served in senior capacities
52	52	in both Republican and Democratic administrations, and
53	53	have held elected positions in State and local govern-
54	54	ments across the United States;
55	55	Whereas Iranian Americans have and continue to serve with
56	56	distinction in the United States military and law enforce-
57	57	ment, upholding the Constitution and safeguarding na-
58	58	tional security;
59	59	Whereas the Iranian American Contributions Project esti-
60	60	mates that Iranian-American publications have been cited
61	61	over 2,000,000 times, and Iranian-American inventors
62	62	have filed for over 4,000 patents;

66	66	Whereas the Iranian-American community is religiously di-
67	67	verse, including Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Zoroastrian,
68	68	and other faiths, contributing to the rich cultural mosaic
69	69	of the United States;
70	70	Whereas many Iranian Americans have overcome significant
71	71	hardships as immigrants and refugees fleeing the brutal
72	72	and dictatorial Islamic Republic;
73	73	Whereas the Iranian-American community has turned adver-
74	74	sity into action, with thousands taking part in the peace-
75	75	ful ‘‘Woman, Life, Freedom’’ protests across the United
76	76	States to demand an end to the Islamic Republic’s vio-
77	77	lence, including against Iranian women and ethnic mi-
78	78	norities and repression of the Iranian people;
79	79	Whereas, on January 26, 2023, the United States House of
80	80	Representatives passed House Concurrent Resolution 7,
81	81	commending the bravery, courage, and resolve of the Ira-
82	82	nian people; and
83	83	Whereas the Iranian-American community is an integral part
84	84	of American society, and their contributions, culture, and
85	85	spirit have made our Nation a better place: Now, there-
86	86	fore, be it
87	87	Resolved, That the House of Representatives— 1
88	88	(1) supports the designation of Iranian Amer-2
89	89	ican Heritage Month; 3
90	90	(2) acknowledges the significant contributions 4
91	91	Iranian Americans have made to our Nation’s cul-5
92	92	ture, economy, and developments in the fields of 6
93	93	science, medicine, and technology; 7

99	99	appropriate programs, activities, and celebrations, 3

102	102	and the Iranian people in their fight for a free and 6
103	103	democratic Iran. 7
