22 | 22 | | Whereas, in 2016, the Department of Homeland Security for- |

23 | 23 | | mally classified Antifa activities as ‘‘domestic terrorist vi- |

25 | 25 | | Whereas one chapter, Rose City Antifa, has rejected the civil |
---|
26 | 26 | | treatment of perceived enemies, stating, ‘‘We can’t just |

27 | 27 | | argue against them; we have to prevent them from orga- |

28 | 28 | | nizing by any means necessary.’’, and this same chapter |

43 | 43 | | Whereas Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Chris- |

44 | 44 | | topher Wray stated in a testimony to the House Home- |

45 | 45 | | land Security Committee, ‘‘We have seen folks who sub- |

46 | 46 | | scribe or identify with the Antifa movement, who coalesce |
---|
47 | 47 | | regionally into small groups or nodes and they are cer- |
---|
48 | 48 | | tainly organized at that level’’, proving these extreme, |
---|
49 | 49 | | violent attacks, disguised under the name of protests, are |
---|
50 | 50 | | coordinated, organized events that are orchestrated by |

51 | 51 | | Antifa; |
---|
52 | 52 | | Whereas the Congressional Research Service reports that |
---|
53 | 53 | | Antifa literature urges followers to publicize information |
---|
54 | 54 | | such as home addresses, phone numbers, photographs, |
---|
55 | 55 | | and social media profiles of perceived enemies; |

56 | 56 | | Whereas, in June 2018, at least 1,500 U.S. Immigration and |

57 | 57 | | Customs Enforcement (referred to in this resolution as |

58 | 58 | | ‘‘ICE’’) employees were doxed by an Antifa-linked Twit- |

59 | 59 | | ter account and were subjected to violent threats and |

80 | 80 | | Whereas, in July 2020, a self-proclaimed member of Antifa, |

81 | 81 | | Willem Van Spronsen, tossed lit objects at vehicles and |

82 | 82 | | buildings, caused a car fire, attempted to ignite a 500- |

83 | 83 | | gallon propane tank, and attempted to firebomb the ICE |
---|
84 | 84 | | detention facility in Tacoma, Washington; |
---|
85 | 85 | | Whereas, in February 2021, the United States Attorney for |
---|
86 | 86 | | the District of Oregon stated that Antifa caused more |
---|
87 | 87 | | than $2,300,000 in riot damage to Federal property in |

88 | 88 | | Oregon, not including any damages to private businesses |
