2525 Recognizing the heritage, culture, and contributions of
2626 Latinas in the United States.
2727 Whereas the United States celebrates National Women’s His-
2828 tory Month every March to recognize and honor the
2929 achievements of women throughout the history of the
3030 United States;
3131 Whereas there are approximately 31,000,000 Latinas living
3232 in the United States;
3333 Whereas, approximately 1 in 6 women in the United States
3434 is a Latina;

3838 Whereas Latinas have helped shape the history of the United
3939 States since its inception;
4040 Whereas Latinas contribute to the society of the United
4141 States through working in many industries, including
4242 business, education, science and technology, medicine, en-
4343 gineering, mathematics, literature and the arts, the mili-
4444 tary, agriculture, hospitality, and public service;
4545 Whereas Latinas come from diverse cultures across North
4646 America, Central America, South America, and the Car-
4747 ibbean, and Afro-Latinas face disparities in recognition;
4848 Whereas Latinas are dedicated public servants, holding posts
4949 at the highest levels of the Federal Government, includ-
5050 ing the Supreme Court of the United States, Cabinet-
5151 level positions, the United States Senate, and the United
5252 States House of Representatives;
5353 Whereas there are approximately 45,710 Latinas serving in
5454 the Armed Forces, and the first Latina to become a gen-
5555 eral in the Marine Corps reached that rank in 2006;
5656 Whereas Latinas are breaking the glass ceiling in science,
5757 technology, engineering, and mathematics, with the first
5858 Latina to travel into space doing so during a 9-day Space
5959 Shuttle Discovery mission in 1993;
6060 Whereas Latinas contributed $1,300,000,000 to the United
6161 States gross domestic product in 2021;
6262 Whereas Latina activists have led the fight for civil rights,
6363 including labor rights, LGBTQ rights, women’s rights,
6464 and racial equality;
6565 Whereas Latinas like Hollywood icon Raquel Welch have cre-
6666 ated award-winning art;

7070 Whereas Latinas are recipients of Emmy, Grammy, Oscar,
7171 and Tony awards, including Rita Moreno, who earned all
7272 4 awards between 1961 and 1977;
7373 Whereas Latina singers and songwriters, such as Selena,
7474 Celia Cruz, Shakira, Gloria Estefan, and Linda Ronstadt,
7575 have made lasting and significant contributions to music
7676 throughout the world;
7777 Whereas Latinas serve in the medical profession, and the
7878 first female and first Hispanic Surgeon General of the
7979 United States was appointed in 1990;
8080 Whereas Latinas serve as journalists, reporting vital news
8181 and information to the public;
8282 Whereas Latinas are world-class athletes, representing the
8383 United States in the Olympics and other international
8484 competitions;
8585 Whereas Latinas working full-time, year-round are paid just
8686 58 cents for every dollar paid to White, non-Hispanic
8787 men, and over a 40 year career, a Latina with a profes-
8888 sional degree could lose more than $2,900,000 in wages;
8989 Whereas, in the face of societal obstacles, including unequal
9090 pay, disparities in education, health care needs, and civil
9191 rights struggles, Latinas continue to break through and
9292 thrive;
9393 Whereas the United States should continue to invest in the
9494 future of Latinas to address the barriers they face; and
9595 Whereas, by 2060, the population of Latinas in the United
9696 States is projected to be 48,834,000: Now, therefore, be
