17 | 17 | | and small, and urban, rural, and Tribal, deserves to have |

18 | 18 | | access to affordable, safe, and clean drinking water, sani- |

19 | 19 | | tation, and other critical water infrastructure; |

20 | 20 | | Whereas more than 2,000,000 people in the United States |

21 | 21 | | lack access to running water, indoor plumbing, or waste- |

22 | 22 | | water services; |

23 | 23 | | Whereas small, rural, and disadvantaged community water |

43 | 43 | | unique to the water sector, and the near-term challenges |

44 | 44 | | that water infrastructure projects face; |

45 | 45 | | Whereas countless disadvantaged communities in the United |

46 | 46 | | States struggle to make needed investments in critical |

47 | 47 | | water infrastructure while simultaneously keeping rates |

49 | 49 | | Whereas water research helps solve some of the most pressing |

50 | 50 | | challenges for the water sector, such as— |

51 | 51 | | (1) aging infrastructure; |

52 | 52 | | (2) emerging contaminants; |

53 | 53 | | (3) resiliency to extreme weather; |
---|
54 | 54 | | (4) drought and water scarcity; and |
