1313 Expressing support for designation of the month of April
1414 2025 as ‘‘Parkinsons Awareness Month’’.
1515 Whereas Parkinson’s disease—
1616 (1) affects over 1,000,000 individuals in the United
1717 States with nearly 90,000 individuals diagnosed each
1818 year;
1919 (2) is the fastest-growing and second most common
2020 neurodegenerative disease in the world;
2121 (3) is believed to be caused by a combination of ge-
2222 netic and environmental factors, but the exact cause in
2323 most individuals is still unknown; and
2424 (4) is the 15th leading cause of death in the United
2525 States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and
2626 Prevention;

3030 Whereas it is estimated that, by the year 2037, the number
3131 of individuals with Parkinson’s disease in the United
3232 States will nearly double, and the disease will cost the
3333 United States at least $80,000,000,000 annually;
3434 Whereas the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease can include de-
3535 mentia and cognitive impairment, tremors, slowness of
3636 movement and rigidity, gait and balance difficulties,
3737 speech and swallowing difficulties, depression, and a vari-
3838 ety of other symptoms;
3939 Whereas there are millions of family caregivers, friends, and
4040 loved ones whose lives are greatly affected by Parkinson’s
4141 disease; and
4242 Whereas more research, education, and community support
4343 services are needed to—
4444 (1) find better treatments and a cure for Parkin-
4545 son’s disease; and
4646 (2) maintain dignity for those living with the disease
4747 today: Now, therefore, be it
4848 Resolved, That the House of Representatives— 1
4949 (1) supports the designation of ‘‘Parkinson’s 2
5050 Awareness Month’’; 3
5151 (2) supports the goals and ideals of Parkinson’s 4
5252 Awareness Month; 5
5353 (3) continues to support research to find better 6
5454 treatments and a cure for Parkinson’s disease; 7
5555 (4) recognizes the individuals living with Par-8
5656 kinson’s disease who participate in vital clinical 9
5757 trials to advance the knowledge of the disease; and 10
