1414 Expressing support for the designation of the week of May
1515 9 through May 18, 2025, as ‘‘National American Birding
1616 Week’’.
1717 Whereas approximately 3,500,000,000 songbirds, raptors,
1818 shore birds, and waterfowl representing over 350 species
1919 migrate north through the United States to breeding
2020 grounds every spring from wintering grounds in the
2121 southern United States, Mexico, and the tropics;
2222 Whereas populations of many migratory bird species are in
2323 decline due to habitat loss, predation, and collisions with
2424 buildings, utility infrastructure, and vehicles;
2525 Whereas an estimated 96,000,000 American birders spend al-
2626 most $107,000,000,000 annually on birdwatching activi-

3232 Whereas annual birding events, such as the ‘‘Biggest Week
3333 in American Birding’’, sponsored by the Black Swamp
3434 Bird Observatory in Oak Harbor, Ohio, in collaboration
3535 with the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, the Magee
3636 Marsh State Wildlife Area, and a coalition of public, non-
3737 profit, and private partners, leverage government, non-
3838 profit, and private resources to promote conservation of
3939 migratory bird populations and economic development
4040 through a multifaceted approach that combines research,
4141 education, and outreach: Now, therefore, be it
4242 Resolved, That the House of Representatives— 1
4343 (1) supports the designation of ‘‘National 2
4444 American Birding Week’’; 3
4545 (2) recognizes that birding is a pastime that 4
4646 generates billions in economic benefits annually; 5
4747 (3) understands that migratory bird populations 6
4848 face an array of natural and human-caused threats 7
4949 to their survival; 8
5050 (4) applauds coordinated efforts by Federal, 9
5151 State, and local governments, conservation organiza-10
5252 tions, and businesses to promote conservation of mi-11
5353 gratory birds and economic development through 12
5454 birding; and 13
5555 (5) encourages birders and the public at large 14
5656 to attend events such as the ‘‘Biggest Week in 15
5757 American Birding’’ to learn about bird migration 16
