1313 Expressing support for the designation of May 2025 as
1414 ‘‘National Brain Tumor Awareness Month’’.
1515 Whereas it is estimated that more than 93,000 Americans
1616 will be diagnosed with a primary brain tumor in 2025,
1717 including 5,000 children, and an estimated 90,000 indi-
1818 viduals in the United States were diagnosed with a pri-
1919 mary brain tumor in 2024;
2020 Whereas it is estimated that more than 1,000,000 Americans
2121 are living with a brain tumor in the United States;
2222 Whereas, in the United States, brain tumors are the—
2323 (1) leading cause of death from cancer in children
2424 who are under 14 years of age and teens who are under
2525 19 years of age; and
2626 (2) second-leading cause of death from cancer in
2727 young adults who are between 15 and 39 years of age;

3131 Whereas the average 5-year survival rate for an individual in
3232 the United States following the diagnosis of a primary
3333 malignant brain tumor is only 35.7 percent;
3434 Whereas it is estimated that 18,330 individuals in the United
3535 States will die as a result of a malignant brain tumor in
3636 2025;
3737 Whereas brain tumors may be malignant or benign but can
3838 be life-threatening in either case;
3939 Whereas treatment of brain tumors is complicated by the fact
4040 that more than 100 types of brain tumors exist;
4141 Whereas the treatment and removal of brain tumors present
4242 significant challenges due to the uniquely complex and
4343 fragile nature of the brain;
4444 Whereas brain tumors affect the primary organ in the human
4545 body that controls not only cognitive ability but the ac-
4646 tions of every other organ and limb in the body, leading
4747 to brain tumors being described as a disease that affects
4848 the whole individual;
4949 Whereas brain tumor research is supported by several pri-
5050 vate, nonprofit research foundations and by Federal med-
5151 ical research institutions;
5252 Whereas basic research may fuel advancements and the devel-
5353 opment of new treatments for brain tumors;
5454 Whereas obstacles to the development of new treatments for
5555 brain tumors remain, and there are limited strategies for
5656 the screening or early detection of brain tumors;
5757 Whereas, despite the high number of individuals diagnosed
5858 with a brain tumor every year and the devastating prog-
5959 nosis for those individuals, only a few treatments have
6060 been approved for malignant brain tumors since the

6565 years on average or are considered to be curative;
6666 Whereas the mortality rates associated with brain tumors
6767 have changed little during the 30 years preceding the
6868 date of introduction of this resolution;
6969 Whereas there is a need for greater public awareness of brain
7070 tumors, including the difficulties associated with research
7171 on brain tumors and the opportunities for advances in
7272 brain tumor research and treatment; and
7373 Whereas May 2025, during which brain tumor advocates na-
7474 tionwide unite in awareness, outreach, and advocacy ac-
7575 tivities, is an appropriate month to recognize as ‘‘Na-
7676 tional Brain Tumor Awareness Month’’: Now, therefore,
7777 be it
7878 Resolved, That the House of Representatives— 1
7979 (1) expresses support for the designation of 2
8080 ‘‘National Brain Tumor Awareness Month’’; 3
8181 (2) encourages increased public awareness of 4
8282 brain tumors to honor the individuals who have lost 5
8383 their lives to a brain tumor or currently live with a 6
8484 brain tumor diagnosis; 7
8585 (3) supports efforts to develop better treat-8
8686 ments for brain tumors that will improve the quality 9
8787 of life and the long-term prognosis of individuals di-10
8888 agnosed with a brain tumor; 11
8989 (4) expresses its support for individuals who are 12
9090 battling brain tumors, as well as the families, 13
9191 friends, and caregivers of those individuals; and 14
