1414 Expressing support for the designation of May 2025 as
1515 ‘‘National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month’’.
1616 Whereas 4,900,000 children in the United States currently
1717 have asthma;
1818 Whereas nearly 28,000,000 people in the United States, have
1919 asthma and the numbers are increasing each year;
2020 Whereas, in 2018, on average, children missed more than
2121 7,900,000 days of school and adults missed 10,900,000
2222 days of work because of asthma;
2323 Whereas asthma is one of the most common noncommu-
2424 nicable diseases among children;
2525 Whereas 1,500,000 individuals per year visit emergency de-
2626 partments because of asthma’s effects;

3030 Whereas asthma is a leading cause of hospitalizations and
3131 school absences due to a chronic disease among children;
3232 Whereas the total economic cost of asthma in the United
3333 States was $81,900,000,000 per year from 2008 to 2013;
3434 Whereas fewer than half of people with asthma report being
3535 given an asthma action plan, which is key to the preven-
3636 tion of asthma attacks;
3737 Whereas Black, Hispanic, and Indigenous individuals in the
3838 United States face the highest burden of asthma;
3939 Whereas asthma is a manageable disease that claimed the
4040 lives of over 3,500 Americans in 2021;
4141 Whereas 20,300,000 people in the United States have food
4242 allergies, including about 4,300,000 children;
4343 Whereas food allergy has increased among United States chil-
4444 dren over the past 20 years, with the greatest increase
4545 in Black children;
4646 Whereas children with food allergies are 2 to 4 times more
4747 likely to have asthma or other allergic diseases; and
4848 Whereas May would be an appropriation month to designate
4949 as ‘‘Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month’’: Now, there-
5050 fore, be it
5151 Resolved, That the House of Representatives recog-1
5252 nizes ‘‘National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month’’ 2
5353 and calls upon the American people to observe such month 3
5454 with appropriate ceremonies and activities. 4
