22	22	Honoring Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, on reaching
23	23	the historic milestone of 117 years of serving communities.
24	24	Whereas Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, was founded on
25	25	January 15, 1908, at Howard University in Washington,
26	26	DC, by Ethel Hedgemon, Anna Easter Brown, Beulah
27	27	Elizabeth Burke, Lillie E. Burke, Marjorie Hill, Mar-
28	28	garet Flagg, Lavinia Norman, Lucy Diggs Slowe, and
29	29	Marie Woolfolk;
30	30	Whereas these 9 young women founded Alpha Kappa Alpha
31	31	Sorority, Inc.®, on the 5 original core tenets: to cultivate
32	32	and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards; to
33	33	promote unity and friendship among college women; to

38	38	women in order to improve their social stature; to main-
39	39	tain a progressive interest in college life; and to be of
40	40	‘‘Service to All Mankind’’;
41	41	Whereas Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, was success-
42	42	fully incorporated on January 29, 1913;
43	43	Whereas, since its founding in 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha So-
44	44	rority, Inc.®, membership now includes over 1,075 chap-
45	45	ters internationally, with more than 120,000 active mem-
46	46	bers, and has initiated more than 365,000 members
47	47	worldwide;
48	48	Whereas Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, is dedicated to
49	49	implementing programs of service that enhance the well-
50	50	being of local, national, and international communities;
51	51	Whereas the theme of that service program for 2022–2026
52	52	is ‘‘Soaring to Greater Heights of Service & Sisterhood’’
53	53	and will involve 6 initiatives, namely—
54	54	(1) Strengthen Our Sisterhood;
55	55	(2) Empower Our Families;
56	56	(3) Build Our Economic Wealth;
57	57	(4) Enhance Our Environment;
58	58	(5) Advocate for Social Justice; and
59	59	(6) Uplift Our Local Community;
60	60	Whereas Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®’s present ad-
61	61	ministration looks to use each of these initiatives to em-
62	62	power members to lead on the front lines of change, edu-
63	63	cation, and advocacy; and
64	64	Whereas, among its many accomplished members, Vice Presi-
65	65	dent Kamala Harris, the first woman to occupy the Of-
66	66	fice of the Vice President of the United States, is a proud
