1212 Supporting the goals and ideals of a Juan Pablo Duarte

1414 Whereas the people of the Dominican Republic acquired au-
1515 tonomy and sovereignty on the 27th day of February
1616 1844;
1717 Whereas the Dominican Republic was the cradle of thinking
1818 and achievement in the Western Hemisphere, establishing
1919 the first university, hospital, and cathedral of the New
2020 World;
2121 Whereas, on the 26th day of January 1813, Juan Pablo
2222 Duarte, the founding father of the Dominican Republic,
2323 was born;
2424 Whereas, during the month of January 2025, Dominican
2525 Americans and citizens of the Dominican Republic will

2929 celebrate the 212th anniversary of the birth of Juan
3030 Pablo Duarte;
3131 Whereas Juan Pablo Duarte, along with Francisco Del
3232 Rosario Sanchez and Ramon Matias Mella, formed La
3333 Trinitaria, a secret organization that initiated the move-
3434 ment for the independence of the Dominican Republic;
3535 Whereas Juan Pablo Duarte actively participated in the Do-
3636 minican War of Independence, demonstrating commit-
3737 ment to the nation’s freedom;
3838 Whereas, by rallying military, civilian, and financial sup-
3939 porters, Duarte demonstrated his ability to unify diverse
4040 groups under the common cause of independence and
4141 sovereignty;
4242 Whereas Duarte conducted a diplomatic mission to garner
4343 Venezuelan support for the Dominican Restoration War
4444 (1863–1865), which resulted in the Dominican Republic
4545 regaining its second independence from Spain;
4646 Whereas Duarte’s liberal and democratic ideas and actions
4747 laid the foundation for the establishment of an inde-
4848 pendent Dominican state, free from foreign rule;
4949 Whereas Juan Pablo Duarte humbly declined urges from sup-
5050 porters to take the presidency of the Republic wanting to
5151 prioritize democratic principles over personal ambitions;
5252 Whereas, despite facing exile, betrayal, and personal loss,
5353 Duarte prioritized the welfare of the Dominican Republic
5454 and its people above all else; and
5555 Whereas, during the month of February 2025, Dominican
5656 Americans and citizens of the Dominican Republic will
5757 celebrate the independence of the Dominican Republic,
5858 including attending the 8th annual Dominicans on the
5959 Hill conference: Now, therefore, be it
