1616 Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that
1717 Congress should take all appropriate measures to ensure
1818 that the United States Postal Service remains an inde-
1919 pendent establishment of the Federal Government and
2020 is not subject to privatization.
2121 Whereas the United States Postal Service is a constitu-
2222 tionally mandated service per article I, section 8, clause
2323 7 of the Constitution;
2424 Whereas the United States Postal Service is a self-sustaining,
2525 independent establishment that does not receive taxpayer
2626 funding and relies solely on revenue derived from the sale
2727 of postal services and products;

3131 Whereas the United States Postal Service and its more than
3232 630,000 employees are at the center of the
3333 $1,900,000,000,000 mailing industry, employing more
3434 than 7,900,000 Americans;
3535 Whereas the United States Postal Service serves the needs of
3636 customers at more than 168,000,000 business and resi-
3737 dential addresses every day, maintains an affordable and
3838 universal network, and connects the country’s rural, sub-
3939 urban, and urban communities;
4040 Whereas the United States Postal Service is consistently the
4141 highest rated agency of the Federal Government in non-
4242 partisan opinion polls;
4343 Whereas the United States Postal Service employs nearly
4444 73,000 military veterans and is one of the largest em-
4545 ployers of veterans in the Nation;
4646 Whereas postal employees are dedicated public servants who
4747 do more than process and deliver the Nation’s mail, they
4848 serve as the eyes and ears of the Nation’s communities
4949 and often respond first in situations involving health,
5050 safety, and crime in their communities;
5151 Whereas privatization of the United States Postal Service
5252 would result in higher prices and reduced services for its
5353 customers, especially in rural communities; and
5454 Whereas privatization of the United States Postal Service
5555 would jeopardize the booming e-commerce sector and
5656 cripple a major part of the Nation’s critical infrastruc-
5757 ture: Now, therefore, be it
5858 Resolved, That it is the sense of the House of Rep-1
5959 resentatives that Congress should take all appropriate 2
