A BILL 
To direct the Attorney General to include a data field in 
the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System 
to indicate whether the last known location of a missing 
person was confirmed or was suspected to have been 
on Federal land, and for other purposes. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1
tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Tracking and Report-4
ing Absent Community-Members Everywhere Act’’ or the 5
‘‘TRACE Act’’. 6

SEC. 2. DEFINITIONS. 1
In this Act: 2
(1) A
TTORNEY GENERAL .—The term ‘‘Attorney 3
General’’ means the Attorney General, acting 4
through the Director of the National Institute of 5
Justice. 6
(2) F
EDERAL LAND.—The term ‘‘Federal land’’ 7
means land owned by the United States that is 8
under the administrative jurisdiction of— 9
(A) the Secretary of Agriculture; 10
(B) the Secretary of the Interior (except 11
land held in trust for the benefit of an Indian 12
Tribe); or 13
(C) the Secretary of Defense only with re-14
spect to land and water resources projects ad-15
ministered by the Corps of Engineers. 16
SEC. 3. DATA FIELD IN THE NATIONAL MISSING AND UN-17
IDENTIFIED PERSONS SYSTEM RELATED TO 18
FEDERAL LAND. 19
The Attorney General shall include in the National 20
Missing and Unidentified Persons System a data field to 21
indicate whether the last known location of the missing 22
person was confirmed or was suspected to have been on 23
Federal land, including any specific location details about 24
the unit of Federal land that was the last known location 25
of the missing person. 26

SEC. 4. REPORT. 1
Not later than January 15 of the second calendar 2
year that begins after the date of enactment of this Act, 3
and annually thereafter, the Attorney General shall submit 4
to the Committee on the Judiciary of the Senate and the 5
Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representa-6
tives a report that contains, for the previous calendar year, 7
the number of cases in the National Missing and Unidenti-8
fied Persons System for which the missing person’s last 9
known location was confirmed or was suspected to have 10
been on Federal land. 11
