OBSTRUCTION OF SUPREME COURT DELIBERA-1 TIONS. 2 (a) I NGENERAL.—Chapter 73 of title 18, United 3 States Code, is amended by adding at the end the fol-4 lowing new section: 5 ‘‘§ 1522. Obstruction of Supreme Court deliberations 6 ‘‘(a) D EFINITION.—In this section, the term ‘con-7 fidential information’ includes— 8 ‘‘(1) internal notes taken by an employee of the 9 Supreme Court of the United States on cases heard 10 by the Supreme Court; 11 ‘‘(2) any communication between the Chief Jus-12 tice of the United States or an associate justice of 13 the Supreme Court of the United States and an em-14 ployee or officer of the Supreme Court; 15 ‘‘(3) a communication between officers and em-16 ployees of the Supreme Court of the United States 17 on a matter pending before the Supreme Court; 18 ‘‘(4) a draft opinion or a final opinion prior to 19 the date on which such opinion is released to the 20 public; 21 ‘‘(5) personal information of the Chief Justice 22 of the United States or an associate justice of the 23 Supreme Court of the United States that is not oth-24 erwise legally available to the public; and 25 VerDate Sep 11 2014 22:38 Apr 01, 2025 Jkt 059200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\S1143.IS S1143 ssavage on LAPJG3WLY3PROD with BILLS 3 •S 1143 IS ‘‘(6) any other information designated to be 1 confidential by the Chief Justice of the United 2 States prior to the date on which a violation of sub-3 section (b) occurs. 4 ‘‘(b) P ROHIBITION.—It shall be unlawful for any per-5 son, while serving as an officer or employee of the Su-6 preme Court, to knowingly publish, divulge, disclose, or 7 make known in any manner or to any extent not author-8 ized by law any confidential information coming to that 9 officer or employee in the course of the employment or 10 official duties of that officer or employee. 11 ‘‘(c) C RIMINALPENALTIES.— 12 ‘‘(1) I N GENERAL.—Except as provided in para-13 graph (2), any individual who violates, or conspires 14 to violate, subsection (b) shall be imprisoned not 15 more than 10 years and fined under this title. 16 ‘‘(2) I NTERNAL NOTES .—Any individual who 17 violates, or conspires to violate, subsection (a) with 18 confidential information described in subsection 19 (a)(1) shall be fined $10,000.’’. 20 (b) C RIMINALFORFEITURE.—Section 982(a)(2)(B) 21 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by striking 22 ‘‘1029, or 1030’’ and inserting ‘‘1029, 1030, or 1522’’. 23 VerDate Sep 11 2014 22:38 Apr 01, 2025 Jkt 059200 PO 00000 Frm 00003 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\S1143.IS S1143 ssavage on LAPJG3WLY3PROD with BILLS 4 •S 1143 IS (c) TABLE OFCONTENTS.—The table of sections for 1 chapter 73 of title 18, United States Code, is amended 2 by adding at the end the following: 3 ‘‘1522.
