21 | 21 | | Congress makes the following findings: 7 |

22 | 22 | | (1) Taiwan is a free and prosperous democracy 8 |

23 | 23 | | of more than 23,000,000 people and an important 9 |

24 | 24 | | contributor to peace and stability around the world. 10 |

32 | 32 | | Prı´ncipe, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Burkina 5 |

33 | 33 | | Faso, El Salvador, the Solomon Islands, Kiribati, 6 |
---|
34 | 34 | | Nicaragua, Honduras, and, most recently in 2024, 7 |
---|
35 | 35 | | Nauru have severed diplomatic relations with Tai-8 |
---|
36 | 36 | | wan in favor of diplomatic relations with the Peo-9 |
---|
37 | 37 | | ple’s Republic of China. 10 |
---|
38 | 38 | | (4) The People’s Republic of China has used 11 |
---|
39 | 39 | | economic and diplomatic intimidation against coun-12 |
---|
40 | 40 | | tries pursuing unofficial relations with Taiwan, in-13 |
---|
41 | 41 | | cluding Lithuania, Czechia, and the United States. 14 |
---|
42 | 42 | | (5) The Taiwan Relations Act of 1979 (Public 15 |
---|
43 | 43 | | Law 96–8) states that it is the policy of the United 16 |
---|
44 | 44 | | States ‘‘to maintain the capacity of the United 17 |
---|
45 | 45 | | States to resist any resort to force or other forms 18 |
---|
46 | 46 | | of coercion that would jeopardize the security, or the 19 |
---|
47 | 47 | | social or economic system, of the people on Taiwan’’. 20 |

48 | 48 | | (6) The Taiwan Allies International Protection 21 |

49 | 49 | | and Enhancement Initiative (TAIPEI) Act of 2019 22 |

---|
66 | 66 | | It is the sense of Congress that the United States 12 |

68 | 68 | | (1) advocate, as appropriate, for Taiwan’s pres-14 |
---|
69 | 69 | | ence on the global stage, including at international 15 |

70 | 70 | | organizations; 16 |

71 | 71 | | (2) promote the preservation and expansion of 17 |
---|
72 | 72 | | Taiwan’s official diplomatic relations with countries 18 |

---|
74 | 74 | | (3) expand Taiwan’s unofficial relations with 20 |

75 | 75 | | countries around the world; 21 |
