| 38 | 38 | | stances’ includes any substance that is structurally related 9 |

| 39 | 39 | | to fentanyl by 1 or more of the following modifications: 10 |

| 40 | 40 | | ‘‘(A) By replacement of the phenyl portion of 11 |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | the phenethyl group by any monocycle, whether or 12 |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | not further substituted in or on the monocycle. 13 |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | ‘‘(B) By substitution in or on the phenethyl 14 |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | group with alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxyl, hydroxyl, halo, 15 |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | haloalkyl, amino, or nitro groups. 16 |

| 46 | 46 | | ‘‘(C) By substitution in or on the piperidine 17 |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | ring with alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxyl, ester, ether, 18 |
