A BILL
To amend the Energy Policy Act of 2005 to expedite geo-
thermal exploration and development in previously stud-
ied or developed areas.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-1
tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Streamlining Thermal 4
Energy through Advanced Mechanisms Act’’ or the 5
‘‘STEAM Act’’. 6
SEC. 2. NEPA REVIEW. 7
Section 390 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (42 8
U.S.C. 15942) is amended— 9

(1) in subsection (a), by inserting ‘‘, or the 1
Geothermal Steam Act of 1970 (30 U.S.C. 1001 et 2
seq.) for the purpose of exploration or development 3
of geothermal resources’’ after ‘‘or gas’’; and 4
(2) in subsection (b)— 5
(A) in paragraph (2), by striking ‘‘or gas’’ 6
and inserting ‘‘, gas, or geothermal’’; and 7
(B) in paragraph (3), by striking ‘‘or gas’’ 8
and inserting ‘‘, gas, or geothermal’’. 9
