3434 EFINITIONS.—Section 921(a) of title 18, United 4
3535 States Code, is amended— 5
3636 (1) by inserting after paragraph (30) the fol-6
3737 lowing: 7
3838 ‘‘(31) The term ‘semiautomatic pistol’ means any re-8
3939 peating firearm, other than a shotgun or rifle, that— 9
4040 ‘‘(A) utilizes a portion of the energy of a firing 10
4141 cartridge to extract the fired cartridge case and 11
4242 chamber the next round; and 12
4343 ‘‘(B) requires a separate pull of the trigger to 13
4444 fire each cartridge.’’; and 14
4545 (2) by adding at the end the following: 15
4646 ‘‘(38) The term ‘semiautomatic shotgun’ means any 16
4747 repeating shotgun that— 17
4848 ‘‘(A) utilizes a portion of the energy of a firing 18
4949 shell to extract the fired shell casing and chamber 19
5050 the next round; and 20
5151 ‘‘(B) requires a separate pull of the trigger to 21
5252 fire each cartridge. 22
5353 ‘‘(39) The term ‘semiautomatic assault weapon’ 23
5454 means any of the following, regardless of country of manu-24
5555 facture or caliber of ammunition accepted: 25

6464 ‘‘(iii) A folding, telescoping, or detachable 6
6565 stock, or a stock that is otherwise foldable or 7

6767 the length, size, or any other dimension, or oth-9
6868 erwise enhances the concealability, of the weap-10

7070 ‘‘(iv) A functional grenade launcher. 12

7373 ‘‘(B) A semiautomatic rifle that has a fixed am-15

7575 more than 10 rounds, except for an attached tubular 17
7676 device designed to accept, and capable of operating 18
7777 only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition. 19
7878 ‘‘(C) Any part, combination of parts, compo-20
7979 nent, device, attachment, or accessory that is de-21
8080 signed or functions to accelerate the rate of fire of 22
8181 a semiautomatic rifle but not convert the semiauto-23
8282 matic rifle into a machinegun. 24

366366 ‘‘(B) does not include an attached tubular de-3
367367 vice designed to accept, and capable of operating 4
368368 only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition. 5
369369 ‘‘(41) The term ‘barrel shroud’— 6
370370 ‘‘(A) means a shroud that is attached to, or 7
371371 partially or completely encircles, the barrel of a fire-8
372372 arm so that the shroud protects the user of the fire-9
373373 arm from heat generated by the barrel; and 10
374374 ‘‘(B) does not include— 11
375375 ‘‘(i) a slide that partially or completely en-12
376376 closes the barrel; or 13
377377 ‘‘(ii) an extension of the stock along the 14
378378 bottom of the barrel which does not encircle or 15
379379 substantially encircle the barrel. 16
380380 ‘‘(42) The term ‘detachable ammunition feeding de-17
381381 vice’ means an ammunition feeding device that can be re-18
382382 moved from a firearm without disassembly of the firearm 19
383383 action. 20
384384 ‘‘(43) The term ‘fixed ammunition feeding device’ 21
385385 means an ammunition feeding device that is permanently 22
386386 fixed to the firearm in such a manner that it cannot be 23
387387 removed without disassembly of the firearm. 24

391391 ‘‘(44) The term ‘folding, telescoping, or detachable 1
392392 stock’ means a stock that folds, telescopes, detaches or 2
393393 otherwise operates to reduce the length, size, or any other 3
394394 dimension, or otherwise enhances the concealability, of a 4
395395 firearm. 5
396396 ‘‘(45) The term ‘forward grip’ means a grip located 6
397397 forward of the trigger that functions as a pistol grip. 7
398398 ‘‘(46) The term ‘grenade launcher’ means an attach-8
399399 ment for use on a firearm that is designed to propel a 9
400400 grenade or other similar destructive device. 10
401401 ‘‘(47) The term ‘pistol grip’ means a grip, a thumb-11
402402 hole stock or Thordsen-type grip or stock, or any other 12
