1818 Expressing the sense of the Senate that Congress should
1919 take all appropriate measures to ensure that the United
2020 States Postal Service remains an independent establish-
2121 ment of the Federal Government and is not subject to
2222 privatization.
2323 Whereas the United States Postal Service is a constitu-
2424 tionally mandated service per article I, section 8, clause
2525 7 of the Constitution of the United States;
2626 Whereas the United States Postal Service is a self-sustaining,
2727 independent establishment that does not receive taxpayer
2828 funding and relies solely on revenue derived from the sale
2929 of postal services and products;

3333 Whereas the United States Postal Service and its more than
3434 630,000 employees are at the center of the
3535 $1,900,000,000,000 mailing industry, which employs
3636 more than 7,900,000 Americans;
3737 Whereas the United States Postal Service serves the needs of
3838 customers at more than 168,000,000 business and resi-
3939 dential addresses every day, maintains an affordable and
4040 universal network, and connects the rural, suburban, and
4141 urban communities of the United States;
4242 Whereas the United States Postal Service is consistently the
4343 highest rated agency of the Federal Government in non-
4444 partisan opinion polls;
4545 Whereas the United States Postal Service employs nearly
4646 73,000 military veterans and is one of the largest em-
4747 ployers of veterans in the United States;
4848 Whereas postal employees are dedicated public servants who
4949 do more than process and deliver the mail, including
5050 serving as the eyes and ears of their communities and
5151 often responding first in situations involving health, safe-
5252 ty, and crime in their communities;
5353 Whereas privatization of the United States Postal Service
5454 would result in higher prices and reduced services for its
5555 customers, especially in rural communities; and
5656 Whereas privatization of the United States Postal Service
5757 would jeopardize the booming e-commerce sector and
5858 cripple a major part of the critical infrastructure of the
5959 United States: Now, therefore, be it
6060 Resolved, That it is the sense of the Senate that Con-1
