11	11	RESOLUTION
12	12	Honoring the life and legacy of the late George Foreman.
13	13	Whereas George Foreman was born on January 10, 1949, in
14	14	Marshall, Texas;
15	15	Whereas George Foreman was raised in Houston, Texas;
16	16	Whereas George Foreman earned his general education de-
17	17	gree and gained vocational skills through the Lyndon B.
18	18	Johnson Job Corps;
19	19	Whereas George Foreman began his boxing career in 1966
20	20	after meeting Doc Broaddus, a boxing instructor, who
21	21	worked for Job Corps;
22	22	Whereas George Foreman won his first amateur fight on
23	23	January 26, 1967, in the Parks Diamond Bell Tour-
24	24	nament;

28	28	Whereas George Foreman won the National Boxing Cham-
29	29	pionship heavyweight title in Toledo, Ohio, in 1968;
30	30	Whereas George Foreman won a gold medal in boxing in the
31	31	heavyweight division during the 1968 Mexico City Olym-
32	32	pic Games;
33	33	Whereas George Foreman began his professional boxing ca-
34	34	reer in 1969;
35	35	Whereas George Foreman won 37 consecutive fights, of
36	36	which 35 were by knockout;
37	37	Whereas, on January 22, 1973, George Foreman won the
38	38	World Heavyweight Championship title by defeating Joe
39	39	Frazier;
40	40	Whereas George Foreman maintained the title of World
41	41	Heavyweight Champion until October 30, 1974, in a
42	42	fierce matchup, known as the ‘‘Rumble in the Jungle’’,
43	43	with Muhammad Ali;
44	44	Whereas George Foreman stepped back from his boxing ca-
45	45	reer to become an ordained minister in 1978 and served
46	46	the congregation at Church of the Lord Jesus Christ,
47	47	which he founded in 1980, in Houston, Texas;
48	48	Whereas, in 1984, George Foreman opened the George Fore-
49	49	man Youth and Community Center in Houston, Texas, to
50	50	provide opportunities to youth across Harris County;
51	51	Whereas George Foreman announced his return to boxing in
52	52	1987 and won his first fight back against Steve Zouski;
53	53	Whereas George Foreman earned the title of World Heavy-
54	54	weight Champion again on November 5, 1994, against
55	55	Michael Moorer, breaking multiple records, including the
56	56	oldest fighter to win a world heavyweight championship,
57	57	the most time between world heavyweight championships,

63	63	Whereas George Foreman fought for the final time in 1997
64	64	against Shannon Briggs;
65	65	Whereas George Foreman had a final career record of 76 to

67	67	Whereas George Foreman became a successful businessman,
68	68	most notably with the George Foreman Lean Mean Grill-
69	69	ing Machine, of which more than 100,000,000 units have
70	70	been sold globally;
71	71	Whereas George Foreman was recognized by the American
72	72	Legion in 2013 with the James V. Day ‘‘Good Guy’’
73	73	Award for his patriotism and service to his community;
74	74	Whereas George Foreman remained a beloved public figure
75	75	and boxing legend until his death;
76	76	Whereas George Foreman died in Houston, Texas, on March
77	77	21, 2025;
78	78	Whereas George Foreman was preceded in death by his
79	79	daughter, Freeda; and
80	80	Whereas George Foreman is survived by his wife of 40 years,
81	81	Mary Joan, and 11 of his children and their families:
82	82	Now, therefore, be it
83	83	Resolved, That the Senate— 1
84	84	(1) honors the life and legacy of George Fore-2
85	85	man for— 3
86	86	(A) his accomplishments as a boxing leg-4
87	87	end; 5
