1313 RESOLUTION
1414 Congratulating the University of Vermont men’s soccer team
1515 on winning the 2024 National Collegiate Athletic Asso-
1616 ciation Division I men’s soccer national championship.
1717 Whereas, on December 16th, 2024, the University of
1818 Vermont men’s soccer team (referred to in this preamble
1919 as the ‘‘Catamounts’’), after a golden goal with 5 min-
2020 utes and 6 seconds left in overtime, pulled off an historic
2121 comeback against Marshall University to win the 2024
2222 National Collegiate Athletic Association (referred to in
2323 this preamble as ‘‘NCAA’’) Division I men’s soccer na-
2424 tional championship, with a final score of 2 goals to 1;
2525 Whereas the 2024 NCAA Division I men’s soccer national
2626 championship victory for the Catamounts is the first-ever

3131 the Catamounts;
3232 Whereas the 2024 NCAA Division I men’s soccer national
3333 championship game was a game for the record books,
3434 with many notable moments including—
3535 (1) a perfectly timed goal by Marcell Papp, which
3636 gave the Catamounts a golden opportunity in overtime;
3737 and
3838 (2) the game winning goal by Maximilian Kissel, his
3939 11th goal of the season, which will be remembered by the
4040 Catamounts for all time;
4141 Whereas the coaching staff of the Catamounts led the team
4242 with grit and determination;
4343 Whereas the support staff of the Catamounts played critical
4444 roles in supporting the Catamounts throughout the 2024
4545 season;
4646 Whereas, to the casual observer, the Catamounts may have
4747 been the underdogs or the ‘‘Cinderella story’’ of the en-
4848 tire 2024 NCAA Division I men’s soccer national cham-
4949 pionship tournament;
5050 Whereas, during the 2024 season, the Catamounts scored 22
5151 goals in the 76th minute or later, including the cham-
5252 pionship equalizing goal, earning the Catamounts the
5353 nickname ‘‘Cardiac Cats’’;
5454 Whereas last-minute victories were a habit for the Cat-
5555 amounts during the 2024 NCAA Division I men’s soccer
5656 national championship tournament, including—
5757 (1) beating San Diego University in overtime in the
5858 third round match; and
5959 (2) tying the University of Denver in the final min-
6060 utes of the semifinal match to push the game into pen-

7272 Vermont very proud and showed the United States that
7373 the State of Vermont is, in fact, a soccer State: Now,
