Section 53B-18-1901 is enacted to read: 31 Part 19. Center for Healthy and Meaningful Play S.B. 75 01-08 16:06 32 53B-18-1901 . Center for Healthy and Meaningful Play -- Definitions -- Purpose 33 -- Duties and responsibilities. 34 (1) As used in this section, "center" means the Center for Healthy and Meaningful Play that 35 this section creates. 36 (2) This section creates the Center for Healthy and Meaningful Play to be administered by 37 the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services at Utah State 38 University. 39 (3) The center's purpose is to act as an interdisciplinary research and outreach program that 40 shall focus on the science, practice, and promotion of childhood play that contribute to 41 physical, psychological, social, family, and community well-being. 42 (4) To fulfill the center's purpose under Subsection (3), the center has the following duties 43 and responsibilities: 44 (a) to direct the center's efforts to understand childhood development and the impact of 45 play on children and families, including: 46 (i) access to play opportunities; 47 (ii) play-based learning; 48 (iii) therapeutic play; and 49 (iv) youth sport; 50 (b) to collaborate with institutions of higher education, the State Board of Education, 51 school districts, local governments, community and other public and private 52 stakeholders, and state, national, and international experts on projects and idea 53 development that promote childhood play; 54 (c) to develop and offer outreach programs, academic programs, and educational training 55 and support for school districts, local governments, and communities on access to 56 play opportunities, learning, therapy, and youth sport that are responsive to a child's 57 developmental needs and interests; 58 (d) to gather and maintain data on childhood play, including data that measures the 59 desired outcomes as determined by the center; 60 (e) to identify challenges and opportunities in developing, implementing, and providing 61 healthy and meaningful play for all youth and the impact of play on children and 62 families; and 63 (f) to identify and acquire public and private resources at the state and national levels 64 that are available to support the center's purpose. 65 Section 2.
