This bill creates the Veterans Day School Assembly Pilot Program.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
25 
Section 1.  Section 53F-5-224 is enacted to read:
26 
53F-5-224 . Veterans Day School Assembly Pilot Program.
27 
(1) As used in this section:
28 
(a) "Pilot program" means the Veterans Day School Assembly Pilot Program created in
29 
Subsection (2).
30 
(b) "Veteran" means an individual who has served on active duty in the armed forces of
31

(2)(a) There is created a three-year pilot program, known as the Veterans Day School
33 
Assembly Pilot Program, to reimburse schools for holding assemblies to honor
34 
veterans during the week of Veterans Day.
35 
(b) Within appropriations made by the Legislature for the pilot program, the state board
36 
shall administer the pilot program and award reimbursement in accordance with the
37 
requirements of this section.
38 
(3)(a) An LEA may submit a proposal to the state board to receive reimbursement under
39 
this section.
40 
(b) An LEA's proposal shall:
41 
(i) identify the schools within the LEA that held an assembly to honor veterans
42 
during the week of Veterans Day;
43 
(ii) specify the day on which the assembly was held; and
44 
(iii) describe how each participating school incorporated educational activities and
45 
curriculum related to the assembly to promote understanding and appreciation of a
46 
veterans' service.
47 
(4) The state board shall compile best practices and guidance from LEAs that have
48 
previously held Veterans Day assemblies and post the best practices and guidelines on
49 
the board's official website.
50 
(5) Upon request of the Education Interim Committee, the state board shall report to the
51 
Education Interim Committee and LEA recipients of reimbursement on:
52 
(a) Veterans Day assemblies held by LEAs within the state before the creation of the
53 
pilot program; and
54 
(b) implementation of the pilot program.

Subsection 3(a). Operating and Capital Budgets

Under the terms and conditions of Title 63J, Chapter 1, Budgetary Procedures Act, the

Legislature appropriates the following sums of money from the funds or accounts indicated for
132 
the use and support of the government of the state of Utah.

amount that does not exceed $1,000 per school to support

Section 4.  Effective date.

This bill takes effect on July 1, 2025.
