54	54	Section 1. Section 53F-5-224 is enacted to read:

56	56	53F-5-224 . Veterans Day School Assembly Pilot Program.

58	58	(1) As used in this section:

60	60	(a) "Pilot program" means the Veterans Day School Assembly Pilot Program created in

64	64	(b) "Veteran" means an individual who has served on active duty in the armed forces of

68	68	(2)(a) There is created a three-year pilot program, known as the Veterans Day School

70	70	Assembly Pilot Program, to reimburse schools for holding assemblies to honor

72	72	veterans during the week of Veterans Day.

74	74	(b) Within appropriations made by the Legislature for the pilot program, the state board

76	76	shall administer the pilot program and award reimbursement in accordance with the

78	78	requirements of this section.

80	80	(3)(a) An LEA may submit a proposal to the state board to receive reimbursement under

86	86	(i) identify the schools within the LEA that held an assembly to honor veterans

88	88	during the week of Veterans Day;

92	92	(iii) describe how each participating school incorporated educational activities and

94	94	curriculum related to the assembly to promote understanding and appreciation of a

98	98	(4) The state board shall compile best practices and guidance from LEAs that have

100	100	previously held Veterans Day assemblies and post the best practices and guidelines on

106	106	Education Interim Committee and LEA recipients of reimbursement on:
