Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. ยง1. That the Board of Housing and Community Development (the Board) shall amend the Uniform Statewide Building Code, including 13VAC5-63-50 and any corresponding regulations, to remove any authority for local building departments to appoint local building officials for a permanent term. The Board shall require each local building department to appoint the local building official for such department for a term not to exceed 10 years and thereafter to only reappoint such building official after holding a performance evaluation to determine whether such official has substantially met the expectations of the local building department during his previous term of appointment.
