A BILL to direct the Board of Medicine to require certain licensees to complete training on health care during pregnancy and the postpartum period, including training that addresses populations experiencing greater than average maternal mortality, postpartum complications, and infant mortality.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. 1. That the Board of Medicine (the Board) shall require that persons licensed by the Board who work with maternal populations, including persons who work in fertility care, prenatal care, birth care, and postpartum care, complete two hours of continuing learning activities that address health care during pregnancy and the postpartum period for all women and infants, especially those populations that data indicate experience significantly greater than average maternal mortality, postpartum complications, and infant mortality. The Board shall work with the Virginia Neonatal Perinatal Collaborative to ensure that evidence-based learning and training resources are readily available to practitioners. Licensees subject to this requirement shall take such training by the later of one year following obtaining such license or July 1, 2026. Licensees shall attest to obtaining such training using a form provided by the Board.
