An Act to require the Board of Education to take certain regulatory actions relating to add-on endorsements for mathematics teachers.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. 1. That the Board of Education (the Board) shall take the following regulatory actions relating to add-on endorsements for mathematics teachers:
1. Develop and approve a geometry add-on endorsement for teachers licensed by the Board to provide instruction in geometry for students in kindergarten through grade eight; and
2. Amend its regulations establishing the criteria for earning an Algebra I add-on endorsement set forth in 8VAC20-23-440 of the Virginia Administrative Code to (i) eliminate the requirements that candidates complete coursework in calculus, Euclidian geometry, probability and statistics, and discrete mathematics and (ii) permit candidates to receive a passing score on the Praxis Algebra I (5162) add-on endorsement exam in lieu of the requirements that candidates complete coursework in elementary functions, introductory college algebra, trigonometry, and linear algebra.
