1521 WHEREAS, Mel Price, cofounder, chief executive officer, and principal at Work Program Architects in Norfolk, has been named to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects; and

1723 WHEREAS, Mel Price's honor from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) is the organization's highest membership honor and is presented to individuals in recognition of their contributions to both architecture and society; and

1925 WHEREAS, Mel Price earned a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Notre Dame in 2003 before working with Island Architects in La Jolla, California, and later Tymoff+Moss Architects in Norfolk; and

2127 WHEREAS, in 2010, Mel Price cofounded Work Program Architects in Norfolk alongside architect Thom White, developing the enterprise into one of the region's leading architecture firms with a portfolio that includes educational and municipal sites, civic landmarks, business and commercial locations, and other dynamic gathering places that contribute to the vitality of the community; and

2329 WHEREAS, Mel Price has supported the building and design industry as a mentor to her fellow architects and as a member of the Virginia Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, Certified Interior Designers and Landscape Architects and as past chair of the AIA National Small Firm Exchange; and

2531 WHEREAS, Mel Price has devoted herself to the well-being of Norfolk beyond her professional practice, serving as vice chair of the Elizabeth River Trail Foundation, vice president of the Greater Norfolk Corporation, and chair of the Downtown Norfolk Council; and

2733 WHEREAS, with an exceptional eye for design and a deep understanding of the way in which built structures connect communities, Mel Price has helped to make Norfolk a more beautiful and inspiring place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it

2935 RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Mel Price for being named to the American Institute of Architects' College of Fellows; and, be it

3137 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mel Price as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her accomplishments and best wishes for her continued success.
