1519 WHEREAS, Al Alexander, assistant principal at Western Branch High School in Chesapeake and chairman of the New Chesapeake Men for Progress Educational Foundation, was presented the H. Councill Trenholm Memorial Award by the National Education Association in 2024; and

1721 WHEREAS, Al Alexander holds degrees from Delaware State University and Old Dominion University and for more than 20 years has worked tirelessly as an educator and education administrator to promote the academic, social, and emotional well-being of his students; and

1923 WHEREAS, Al Alexander has been involved with the New Chesapeake Men for Progress Educational Foundation (NCMPEF), an organization committed to providing scholarships, mentoring, and other educational programs to the youth of Chesapeake, since its founding in 2010 and is currently the organization's chairman; and

2125 WHEREAS, the NCMPEF has excelled in the pursuit of its mission during Al Alexander's tenure, providing more than $197,000 in scholarships to more than 200 graduates from Chesapeake's seven high schools; and

2327 WHEREAS, Al Alexander guided NCMPEF in its efforts to support young people through the provision of school supply funds to Title I schools and the Chesapeake Center for Student Success, as well as mini-grants for mentoring programs and other worthwhile endeavors; and

2529 WHEREAS, Al Alexander's outsized impact in the community has been made possible through the various partnerships and collaborations he has formed with other local organizations, including Ground Zero Development, the local Boys and Girls Club, Commonwealth ChalleNGe Youth Academy, and the Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority; and

2731 WHEREAS, Al Alexander has demonstrated extraordinary leadership, passion, and dedication in his work cultivating the leaders of tomorrow, helping to make Chesapeake a more wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it

2933 RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Al Alexander for receiving the 2024 H. Councill Trenholm Memorial Award from the National Education Association; and, be it

3135 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Al Alexander as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his accomplishments and best wishes for his continued success.
