2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 515 Commending Rachel Roberts. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 27, 2025 Agreed to by the Senate, January 30, 2025 WHEREAS, Rachel Roberts, known affectionately by many in the Leesburg community as the Flower Lady, is an accomplished gardener and dedicated philanthropist who has greatly supported Loudoun Hunger Relief over many years; and WHEREAS, Rachel Roberts has volunteered with Loudoun Hunger Relief for 22 years, helping to sort food and pack groceries in the organization's food pantry to assist individuals and families in the community facing food insecurities; and WHEREAS, in 2012, using flowers cut from her garden and her collection of Mason jars and vases, Rachel Roberts set up a flower stand at the end of her driveway on Edwards Ferry Road and donated all of its proceeds to Loudoun Hunger Relief; and WHEREAS, operating entirely on an honor system, Rachel Roberts's flower stand has raised more than $180,000 for Loudoun Hunger Relief over the past 12 years, providing more than 725,000 meals to individuals and families in need; and WHEREAS, Rachel Roberts's endeavor has increased awareness of Loudoun Hunger Relief, Loudoun County's largest hunger relief nonprofit organization, leading many others to support the organization in its vital mission; and WHEREAS, in 2019, Loudoun Hunger Relief presented Rachel Roberts with the organization's inaugural Shining Star Award to recognize her for her innovative and dedicated volunteer service; and WHEREAS, Rachel Roberts's ingenuity, determination, and commitment to serving others are an inspiration to many and have helped to make Leesburg a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Rachel Roberts for her efforts in support of Loudoun Hunger Relief; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rachel Roberts as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her contributions to the Commonwealth and best wishes for her continued success.
