2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 542 Commending The Bargain Box. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 3, 2025 Agreed to by the Senate, February 6, 2025 WHEREAS, for more than 55 years, The Bargain Box, a thrift store operated by the York County Volunteer Association, has provided financial assistance and support to local families, other nonprofit organizations, and community initiatives; and WHEREAS, the York County Volunteer Association was formed in 1967 by a group of local residents seeking ways to strengthen their community and provide hope to neighbors in need; the organization originally held yard sales to raise money and later established a small thrift shop, which became The Bargain Box; and WHEREAS, currently located on Dare Road in Yorktown, The Bargain Box accepts donations of a wide range of items, including clothes, coats, shoes, jewelry, vinyl records, books, toys, games, memorabilia, and antiques; and WHEREAS, the hardworking volunteers at The Bargain Box inspect, clean, and price all items and rotate stock to meet trends and demands; the store is the main source of revenue for the York County Volunteer Association, with all proceeds from sales going to support local residents or other important organizations; and WHEREAS, over the years, The Bargain Box has offered emergency financial assistance to countless families in need and has provided gift cards during the holidays, summer school tuition, scholarships, assistance with job training, plumbing and utilities expenses, and medical equipment; and WHEREAS, The Bargain Box has also supported vital programs like the NATASHA House transitional home, the Lackey Clinic, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend The Bargain Box for more than 55 years of service to the York County community; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to The Bargain Box as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's legacy of incredible achievements and tireless efforts to enhance the quality of life of all York County residents.
