1519 WHEREAS, Lara Shearin Overy, an esteemed public servant and community leader, retired from her position as the commissioner of the revenue of the City of Williamsburg in 2024; and

17-WHEREAS, Lara Overy is a lifelong resident of the Virginia Peninsula and an alumna of The College of William & Mary, where her academic achievement and other activities earned her the Benjamin Stoddert Ewell Award; and

1923 WHEREAS, Lara Overy acquired valuable managerial experience for her role as commissioner of the revenue while working as the director of development at both Thomas Nelson Community College and Tidewater Community College (TCC) and as the executive director of TCC's Educational Foundation; and

2125 WHEREAS, Lara Overy honed her financial acumen while serving as chief operating officer for Compass Wealth Strategies, devising astute retirement planning and estate planning strategies for the benefit of her clients; and

2327 WHEREAS, beyond her work as commissioner of the revenue, Lara Overy has given generously of her time in support of the community by serving as president of the Virginia Symphony Society of Greater Williamsburg and on the boards of the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast, Young Life, the Lynchburg Parents Council, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, and the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance; and

2529 WHEREAS, since she was elected commissioner of the revenue in 2017, Lara Overy has dedicated herself to responsibly overseeing the City of Williamsburg's collection of various taxes, ensuring the effective administration of the city's government and services; and

2933 RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Lara Shearin Overy on the occasion of her retirement as the City of Williamsburg's commissioner of the revenue; and, be it

3135 RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Lara Shearin Overy as an expression of the General Assembly's high regard for her exemplary career in service to the City of Williamsburg and the Commonwealth and best wishes for her future endeavors.
