2025 SESSION ENROLLED HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 550 Commending Erin Schaible. Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 3, 2025 Agreed to by the Senate, February 6, 2025 WHEREAS, Erin Schaible, a trailblazing leader in law enforcement who served and safeguarded the Fairfax community for more than three decades, retired as chief of the City of Fairfax Police Department in 2025; and WHEREAS, Erin Schaible grew up in a family with numerous law-enforcement officers, including her father, who served as a police officer in California before joining the United States Secret Service; and WHEREAS, upholding the family tradition, Erin Schaible joined the Fairfax County Police Department as a patrol officer and was originally based at the Mason District Police Station; she quickly rose through the ranks and gained experience at several other stations in the county; and WHEREAS, Erin Schaible held command assignments in the Organized Crime and Narcotics units, Internal Affairs Bureau, and Resource Management Bureau, where she managed a multimillion-dollar budget with oversight of logistics, property and evidence, and records and facilities; and WHEREAS, Erin Schaible subsequently served as the Patrol Bureau commander for Division II, which included the Mason and McLean stations, the Community Resources Division, the Gang Unit, and the Field Training program; and WHEREAS, in that capacity, Erin Schaible also oversaw emergency operations, administered the school resource officer program and the crime prevention program, and developed a restorative justice initiative; and WHEREAS, over the course of her career, Erin Schaible was deeply engaged in the community and relished every opportunity to mentor young people or enhance the overall quality of life in Fairfax County through her innovative programs; and WHEREAS, in February 2019, Erin Schaible made history when she was selected as the first female chief of the City of Fairfax Police Department; and WHEREAS, Erin Schaible's background in managing complex investigations, workplace security, conflict resolution, crisis prevention and intervention, team building, project management, community policing, and every aspect of law-enforcement operations made her a natural choice as chief of police; and WHEREAS, Erin Schaible served residents of Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax with the utmost dedication, integrity, and distinction and looks forward to seeking new opportunities to serve the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Erin Schaible on the occasion of her retirement as chief of the City of Fairfax Police Department; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Erin Schaible as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her exceptional service to the Fairfax community and visionary leadership as a law-enforcement officer.
